Mono Lake, California is a place of special beauty. Tufas are limstone formation that only built up under water; because water level has been drained to provide drinking water to Southern California Tufas are now visible outside of water. Mono Lake lies in the High Sierras just outside the eastern entrance of Yosemite National Park.

Grotto Falls in early Spring 2007. The Grottos Falls Trail begins at stop #5 on the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. This easy trail, through a hemlock forest, crosses three small streams and leads behind the falls. the cool moist environment at the falls is perfect for salamanders and summer hikers. Trillium Gap Trail meanders through an old-growth hemlock forest, crosses three small streams and leads behind the 25 foot high waterfall. The cool moist environment at the falls is perfect for salamanders and summer hikers. / The hike is 3 miles roundtrip and considered moderate in difficulty. Access trail: Trillium Gap / Trailhead: From the parkway in Gatlinburg, turn at traffic light #8 and follow Historic Nature Trail into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Take Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail (no RVs or trailers; closed in winter ) to stop #5 where there is a large parking area. A very narrow slot canyon appropriately named Spooky Gulch twists and turns for several hundred meters through a dry desert landscape. Its walls tower many meters overhead while the opening in front of you seems to get smaller and smaller. Those hikers that are both brave and thin enough to fit through will find that they are able to make it to the opposite side. Wild deer in Yosemite National Park – USA I spent ages with a group of these deer. Walked slowly to approach, after approx 15 mins i was surrounded by them, couldn’t shoot as they were too close, one just 10cm away, so we just hung out together until the cold drove me inside. Was a beautiful experience. They have the most gorgeous eyes :)) I loved every minute in Yosemite. While it’s possible to be disappointed by the hordes of thronging tourists, I don’t think it’s possible to overplay the spectacular natural beauty of Yosemite Valley. I have travelled in over 40 countries and found few places that rival it for jaw-dropping-ness. Again I was blessed with perfect light this morning, catching the early sunlight kissing the faces of the rock around Yosemite Falls, that vibrant spring green of the meadows, and the swollen water as it tumbled down the cliff-face. I spent less than 24 hours in the park, and I ache to head back there someday and spend some proper time there, because it really took my heart… May 2007.

Don’t know how this one would turn out… but I like it all the same… I was trying out my new lens… it was taken in Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado… I could zoom in on it but I like the fact that there is this tiny bird… sitting on a tall tree in a big Forest…

Morning sun filters through the trees at John Olivers Cabin with a few dogwoods in the background…The cabin is almost completly surrounded by split-rail fence also…...The Oliver’s bought land in the Cove in 1826 and this cabin site remained in the family until the Park was established. The house is typical of many found on the eastern frontier in the mid-1850s, and reflects the skills and techniques brought into the mountains by descendants of British and European immigrants. This cabin is located on the Cades Cove Loop Road, in the Great Smoky Mountain N.P.

Arches National Park is a U.S. national park in southern Utah. It is known for preserving over 2,000 natural sandstone arches, including the world-famous Delicate Arch, in addition to a variety of unique geological resources and formations. The park is located near Moab, Utah, and is 119 square miles (310 km2) in size. Its highest elevation is 5,653 feet (1,723 m) at Elephant Butte, and its lowest elevation is 4,085 feet (1,245 m) at the visitor center. Since 1970, forty-three arches have toppled because of erosion. The park receives 10 inches (250 mm) of rain a year on average. / /

The sand dunes at Mesquite Flats, just outside Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley National Park. Having spent the night sleeping on a park bench at the camp ground outside Furnace Creek, I raced up here ahead of the sunrise for a nice 5.30am photoshoot to make the most of the early light. I love how low horizontal sunlight brings out the texture in the dunes- by 8am this place is pretty much a washout, but I had a good sixty minutes of gorgeous tones and contrast… and yes, left my tracks all over the sand. Another spot I can’t wait to head back to someday. May 2007.
