You have to ask why I titled it magic circle, I don’t think I took one shot of the whole stone circle. Sunset or sunrise is what adds the magic.. if only I could manage to get up early enough to capture the sunrises. / Castlerigg Stone Circle near Keswick in the Lake District National Park. Taken with a Canon 350D. hdr from three raw files. / The Extract below was taken from Wikipedia… Wilkipedia “The stones are of a local metamorphic slate, set in a flattened circle, measuring 32.6m (107ft) at its widest and 29.5m (97ft) at its narrowest. The heaviest stone has been estimated to weigh around 16 tons and the tallest stone measures approximately 2.3m high. There is a 3.3m wide gap in its northern edge, which may have been an entrance. Within the circle, abutting its eastern quadrant, is a roughly rectangular setting of a further 10 stones. The circle was probably constructed around 3200 BC (Late Neolithic/Early Bronze-Age), making it one of the earliest stone circles in Britain and possibly Europe, too. It is important to archaeoastronomers who have noted that the sunrise during the Autumn equinox appears over the top of Threlkeld Knott, a hill 3.5km to the east. Some stones in the circle have been aligned with the midwinter sunrise and various lunar positions.” MY OLD STANDING STONES SET

Upper Yosemite Fall as seen from across one of the meadows in early spring. Yosemite National Park, California, is perhaps the world’s best known example of a glacier-carved canyon. Yosemite’s giant waterfalls, towering cliffs, rounded domes, and massive monoliths make it a natural marvel and one of the most visited places on Earth. Yosemite National Park is located in California’s Eastern Sierras. It is comprised of Yosemite Valley, Tuolumne Meadows, Glacier Point, and other high country wilderness areas. One of the main attractions of Yosemite are its majestic waterfalls. The main falls are Yosemite, Bridalveil, Vernal, Nevada, and Illilouette. The best time to visit the falls is in May since the water is gushing. Bridalveil usually has a neat rainbow in the afternoon.

Please view large.Taken with a Canon 50D, Canon 100 – 400 L series lens @ 285mm, F5.6, shutter speed 1/500 second ISO200, edited in Photoshop Similar to a shot I previously uploaded, I have not cropped the shot it is a tighter zoom! The shot was taken in Bandhavgarh National Park in India, the tiger had just made a wild boar kill about 100 metres away, we saw it leave the kill so we raced up to this waterhole in our 4×4 and waited for this beautiful animal to arrive for a drink…

THIS IS A BIG IMAGE VIEW LARGER FOR BEST RESULTS This shot was taken from Echo Point in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area at sunset, it was created from 5 bracketed images using a Nikon D300 fitted with a Nikon 18-200mm. No filters were used. The rock formations to the left are known as “The Three Sisters” the image was taken at sunrise looking past the Sisters certainly have a great view. The Blue Mountains are located 2 hours west of Sydney by road, also by train for visitors to Sydney, there are also organised day trips via motor coach that will take you to the area for the day…. though if you have the time spend a few days in the area. You can see all the attractions, have a devonshire tea in one of the many teahouses, or sit on the edge of the valley that seems to go on forever, and listen to the birdlife. Bushwalking is a must !

As we drove out of our Lodge in Amboseli on the final morning of our stay , at sunrise, there was a herd of Buffalo heading for the waterhole, kicking up the ever present dust. Their hooves made a wonderful sound in the silence. The scene lasted only seconds, but will be forever imprinted on my mind. The eternal struggle for existence,of many animals, to reach water, without being attacked by a predator, crossed my mind as I frantically shot my image. / You snooze, you lose !! / Mount Kilimabjaro peers through the thick dust, barely discernable. Taken on a CanonEOS40D.

Hurricane Ridge, Olympic NP, Washington state, USA. / Feeling the need to get away from the traffic below, we drove up to this viewpoint one evening, on a road trip through Washington State and Oregon, the Pacific North West of the USA. There weren’t too many folk up there, just a few black-tailed deer for company. I just loved those misty layers. It was a great way to end the day ! I shot this on my CANON EOS 20D, with my Tamron 28-300mm lens, set at 55mm, polarising filter, on tripod, f8, 1/250sec, iso 100, Auto WB, RAW file processed in Photoshop CS3. I cooled the image down by reducing the colour temperature to make it more blue, the rest was just levels/curves adjustments. / I used a relatively wide aperture to keep the image on the soft side, enhancing the misty layers. / FEATURED IN / http://www.redbubble.com/groups/mountains-and-light / AND / http://www.redbubble.com/groups/fine-art-of-landscape-photography / /
