After years and years of having strange people insert hands into their hind quarters, up through their guts, and into their heads in order to mockingly animate their lifeless corpses with comical movements and embarrassingly lame voices, the puppets have revolted. Infused with demonic strength, an insatiable thirst for flesh, and fueled by the need for revenge, their one and only goal is to see us all dead and they will not stop until the job is done. You can run, but they’re faster. You can hide, but they’ll find you. You can call the police, but oops…the police are already dead. Their flimsy plush arms are extensions of the devil himself and there is no escape.

I seem to get my share of creepy and nasty bubblemails and emails. Thankfully not all that often, but often enough. I have always used two tactics with such people. The first is to reply to them “I don’t think that was an appropriate email to send, but seeing as how you do, you won’t mind me publishing it with your email address on my profile.” While this works well as a scare tactic, it doesn’t prevent them from moving onto another victim. The other tactic is to report the offending bubblemail to redbubble using the link provided and let someone objective review it and act. Today I got an (in my opinion unprovoked) email that said: “You are so disgusting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” This is just the latest. I’ve had much worse: untalented, slut, idiot, you should be ashamed, f words, revolting… the list goes on. Heck, I’m the first to admit when I’ve pushed someone’s buttons wrong but I’m only quoting ‘out of the blue’ type mails here. Anyway… I’m on a tangent. My discussion questions are: What do you think is the best way to deal with people who bubblemail or email nasty things? Do people actually use the report button? And if not – why not? Any good ideas for how to tackle situations where people are not as lovely as they first appear? Where does this type of behavior become bullying or harrassment?

Do you have a gripe on Redbubble? / Consider this: In Australia a report found the number of homeless youths, aged between 12 and 18, across the country had doubled to 22,000 in the past two decades. Can you imagine your 12 year old living on the street? / Three 14-year-old Hong Kong children have been sentenced to more than three years for the armed hold-up of a jewellery shop. They are 14 years old for heaven’s sake! Children! They will spend 3 years in jail. / A 19-year-old climber has died after slipping and falling in Mount Aspiring National Park in New Zealand’s Southern Alps. Someone’s family is grieving One person was killed and 10 others injured when a car ploughed into a bicycle race on a highway in Mexico. people just going about their business killed and injured There’s no punchline with any of this. Sure, the news is not always bad or sad, but it is LIFE. This is REAL LIFE people. So, before you hit the report button here on Redbubble, before you write a scathing journal or stir up discontent, have a think about REAL LIFE. There are far worse things than being told you’re an idiot by someone you have never met. There are far worse things than feeling offended by an image or disliking the stand someone takes in a discussion. You may have the right to feel aggrieved, sure, but you haven’t been in a bicycle accident, or fallen down a mountain, or lost a child in tragic circumstances. You’re not living on the street, or in serious trouble. Before doing anything in anger – walk away from the computer and do something completely unrelated. Either you will forget about it, or you will get some perspective. I know Redbubble is just a website. I know it’s just that. But I can’t help feeling sad at the nastiness that seems to be growing here. I can’t help feeling growing alarm that a place I spend every spare moment is being so adversely affected by petty squabbling that it will implode. Nope, the red dot next to my name does not give me any insider knowledge whatsoever. I have no idea how Redbubble Administration is working to subdue the destruction that is happening here. But I do know the place is losing its charm and happy environment because of a minority of people who feel it is their lot in life to set everyone else straight. The underlying rule at Redbubble is “play nice”. When we all joined up we agreed to behave within the rules and the credo to “play nice”. Why is it so hard for adults and professionals to follow such a simple principle? Please, think about Real Life before you weigh in to any arguments.

Ok here it is ! I know you’ve all been waiting for the unveiling for like … ever. OK, probably not since I haven’t mentioned it before….maybe I did , I dunno hmmm . Anyway ….I’ve been working on a collab with the very talented Jennifer Woodward .. She has written a very cute and delightful poem about …. well , wait .. I don’t wanna spoil it for you … ( and noooo bribing me for info won’t help ) Until Jen is ready to launch the finished piece , I’m putting out some teasers .. this being the first of a few characters from the poem . I have to admit , this has become my personal fav of all my stuff ( I think mainly cuz it took me longer to do than anything I’ve done before ) so feel free to favorite , throw accolades and praise my way , purchase .. I won’t stop you ! Also , I should mention too … please please please Red Bubble ~ DON’T FEATURE this ! I I know everybody is alert and won’t fall for this but…..just in case anybody is not I received an email from ‘paypal ’ to upgrade my account , all details of bank, credit card etc sent early January 1/ 2008 .. must be done now other wise we ….....etc etrc…. so I sent it to paypal at the below email address. paypal replied thanking me . [copied and pasted below] I thank them.! Easy to get trapped half awake new years day! they had the proper paypal form included too. What is a phishing email? / —-—-—-—-—- / Phishing emails attempt to steal your identity and will often ask you to / reveal your password or other personal or financial information. PayPal / will never ask for your password over the phone or in an email and will / always address you by your first and last name. Every email counts.
