In the 23rd century machines will become the ultimate extension; the apotheosis of our frail human anatomy. / I owe a belated thanks to Toxy for his story Concept which influenced the final direction taken for this magnificent theme.

  • Out of this world
    by lightsmith

    US$4.66–US$106.40

I was hoping for a nice tree picture but what i got strikes me very differently. It’s like a shot from another planet. The lens flare would normally have ruined it but the very nature of the flare and thestyle almost seem to add to the interplanetary mood. The pic is totally unmodified. I’d be interested in your opinion – have i been watching too much Dr Who or does it really have an air of the outer worlds?

  • Cosmic Shore
    by Paul Rumsey

    US$3.99–US$91.20

The story behind this picture. I loved that scene from the Movie Contact where Jodie Foster lands on an Alien beach. Well I don’t have a Hollywood studio but was inspired to start exploring this area. Using Photoshop (PS) I took a recent shot of Felpham Beach in West Sussex, flipped it in PS. I then took an older shot I captured of the Palm Trees in Laguna Beach, California …when I lived out there and with a little help from NASA and Hubble arrived at this combined creation. I think it is kinda cool to take a beach in the UK and a beach in California and fuse the two. I am rather surprised how many views and comments this has had since posting and I would like to thank everyone for their comments!

  • Outta Time
    by Art4EartH

    US$3.99–US$91.20

This artwork was inspired by a speech given to the US Congress by Dr. James Hansen recently. For the past twenty-five years, Dr. Hansen has been the director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, NASA’s premiere climate research center. Dr. Hansen is also an adjunct professor of earth and environmental sciences at Columbia University. / / On the 20th anniversary of Hansen’s original congressional testimony that sounded the alarm bell on our climate crisis, the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming has hosted him again to give a briefing on his vision of the climate challenge as it stands now. / / In 1988, discussion of climate change was confined mainly to scientific journals. But on June 23, Dr. Hansen was the lead witness at a hearing of the Senate Energy Committee to explore the issue. His testimony marked the first time a top climate scientist declared that global temperatures had risen beyond the range of natural variability. Since then, scientists from around the world have built an unassailable body of evidence that supports his 1988 testimony. Climate change now looms as a more immediate and serious threat than ever before and in need of swift, effective Congressional action. / / You can download Dr. Hansen’s speech to read at the link below courtesy of Columbia University. / / Global Warming Twenty Years Later: Tipping Points Near / http://www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/2008/TwentyYearsLater_20080623.pdf / / / Just over a year ago, Dr. Hansen also went public with a charge that made headlines around the world. He said that the Bush administration had been trying to silence his warnings about the urgent need to address climate change. You can view this video, or read the transcript, on this interview with Dr. Hanson at the link shown below. / / Censoring Science: Inside the Political Attack on Dr. James Hansen and the Truth of Global Warming / http://www.democracynow.org/2008/3/21/censoring_science_inside_the_political_attack / / / We are ‘outta time’ in dealing with global warming, and we must all act immediately to avoid the catastrophic consequences that will otherwise occur if we fail to heed the warnings we have been given by those with indisputable expertise, such as Dr. Hansen. / /

  • 2001
    by Steve Harvey

    US$22.94

Open the pod bay doors Hal…this took me fekkin ages to draw in Corel.

  • A graphic interpretation of the Cassini spacecraft currently orbiting the planet Saturn.

  • Another piece from “The Big Coat.” This was done a few years ago. (Back when I was in my markers, ink, and anything else I can get my hands on phase). It’s not one of my absolute favorites, but I don’t hate it either. It’s sort of like plain old vanilla ice cream to me, it’s tastes fine, I’m not going to spit it out, but it would taste a heck of a lot better if it were chocolate.

    Funny

  • It's OK, they've gone.
    by Brian Towers

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Another silly one. I had to wonder if the space missions to our moon missed something. They must have doubts because they’re planning on going back to find out. Somehow I don’t think they will find these two lifeforms. Acrylic.

  • Alien Seascape
    by Julie Marks

    US$4.66–US$106.40

I was very fortunate to have located a landscape on a / mysterious planet. Nasa sent me a more technologically / advanced telescope to be able to study the landscapes / of many of the planets I have discovered in intergalactic / space. I was stunned to view this dramatic and strangely / familiar seascape covered in boulders of fascinating shapes / and colors. Some of these huge rocks may have been residents that were sleeping or otherwise ignoring my presence possibly thinking I might be a a destructive intruder / threatening their survival in this pristine and / exotic small island. I heard a story about an earthlike / planet that is is covered with shallow oceans dotted with / archipelagos of small islands. The winds blow constantly / and can achieve velocities of up to 300 kilometers per hour / particularily in the warmer months. The oceans freeze / in winter and the inhabitants move over the icy surface / of their planet by wind-skating. Broad, membranous wings / stretch from their hips to their arms, spreading as their arms / are lifted to catch the wind. In his scholarly book Icerigger, / Dr. Alan Dean Foster has referred to these creatures as / Tranies , the males possesing a compelling interest in / cross dressing without the stigma that exists in other / cultures. They have three-toed feet that have carving claws / that act as skates, and can be retracted upward to / allow them to walk on land. A single claw on the Tranie’s / heel acts as a break. Many groups of this species live a nomadic like existence, moving in a horde across their planet / and descending on the settled islanders to demand goods / and food. Also, this is their only opportunity to shop and / buy glamorous head dresses and other female attire including designer fashions from Armani, Versache, Dior, Gucci and / Vera Wang. It is rumored that Tranies traveled / to Earth during New York’s fashion week during which new / collections are unveiled. This species prefers to abduct / courtier fashions rather than the women who wear them. / I want to add that when I spoke with Dr. Foster, I told him / that one of the two moons was visible shedding just enough light to allow a cosmic sheen that spread over the landscape. / I learned that the moon may be a planet in this remote galaxy. Now that I have a more powerful hubbel telescope to continue my journeys through intergalactic space, I will share with all of you my new discoveries.
