NAMASTE / OIL ON STRETCHED CANVAS / 1400 US (16” X 20”ORIGINAL) / SIGNED DEDICATED PRINTS AVAILABLE When one travels over the Hindu Kush and into the vast expanse of India the greeting of Namaste is heard everywhere. This reverent bow with hands upturned pointing to heaven replaces the handshake so familiar to Westerners. This reverential bow is the acknowledgement of the Divine spark that is common in everything. This bow is the recognition of the bond we have with each other and our Creator and is reflected in this simple but holy gesture. This Divine spark encompasses all that there is, from the vast to the small, nothing is left untouched. I have always admired and respected the commitment in which a chosen few have decided to leave this material world and to seek the embrace of the spiritual aspect of life. Leaving all behind and traveling unencumbered by possessions they ferry across the troubled waters of life. They have shunned the cult of money and fortune. They recognize that the world is suffocating on greed and it’s spiritual arteries are clogged with a gluttony of excessively rich appetites. For them money and fame are no longer a feramone that compels them. They have been set free. I have met a few of these “holy men and women”. They were from different spiritual and religious beliefs but the one common aspect to them all was the fact that they were never really noticed by the world. These holy sages walk about the world and leave no footprints. Nothing is diminished by their presence but rather everything they encounter is enhanced. I have heard it said “that once a saint knows that he or she is a saint, they no longer are” and I believe that that is true. So, I will continue to travel my path and to try to keep my eyes and my ears open because I never really know when I will again encounter another one of my spiritual teachers. As the third ‘Auspicious Symbol’ of Buddhism, the WHEEL (sanskrit-chakra) consists of three basic parts: the hub, the rim, and the spokes (8). Its underlying form is that of a circle, which is recognized across all traditions as a shape that is complete and perfect in itself, qualities which inform the teachings of the Buddha too. / Individually, the rim represents the elements of limitation, the hub is the axis of the world, and the eight spokes denote the Eightfold path set down by Buddha, which leads to the cessation of all suffering. / A further esoteric interpretation makes reference to the three trainings which form an integral part of Buddhist meditative practice, associating each of the three parts of the wheel with one such practice. / The symbolism is: / HUB-training in moral discipline. Through this practice the mind is supprted and stabilized. Thus it is the practice of moral discipline that upholds our meditation, just like supporting axis of the world. / SPOKES-stand for the correct application of wisdom, which cuts off ignorance and ends suffering. / RIM- denotes concentration, which holds the entire meditative practice together, just as the wheel of life is held together by its rim. / The wheel evolved as a symbol of the Buddha’s teachings and as an emblem of the Chakravartin or ‘wheel turner’, identifying the wheel as the Dharmachakra or ‘wheel of law’. The Tibetan term for Dharmachakra literally means “the wheel of transformation”. The wheels swift motion serves as an apt metaphor for the rapid spiritual change engendered by the teachings of Buddha. Hence, Buddha’s first discourse at the Deer Park in Sarnath is known as the first turning of the wheel of dharma. Likewise, his subsequent discourses at Rajgir and Shravasti are known as the second and third turnings of the wheel of dharma. Seahorses are very lovely but fierce and ferocious little creatures and are monogamous and did you know that the males “carry the eggs and birth the babies” yup they bear the young. I thought it might brighten your day or someones day with that tidbit and these kitschy little seahorse critters especially if you are thinking of or just practicing getting pregnant and share this little tidbit with that guy or girl of yours. Start counting 1 2 3 4 5 6 7…oh bingo you might hit the jackpot or have to start all over again…practice makes perfect…no matter what the intentions. Yin and yang must be in balance…for joy and happiness. You might also see a happy Buddha too if you use your imagination…right there.

A very welcoming door near Palpa, Nepal. Namaste is Sanskrit for ” I bow to that (divinity) inherent in you.” It’s a very common greeting in the Indian subcontinent. One hand represents the higher, spiritual nature, while the other represents the worldly self. By combining the two, the person making the gesture is attempting to rise above his differences with others, and connect himself with the person to whom he bows. The bow is symbolic of love and respect. Olympus SP-550UZ
