I AM NOT AN ARTIST I AM JUST A MAN WHO PAINTS.L.S.LOWRY).... I have been painting as an amateur artist on and off for many years.I have over the years developed a very unusual use of colour and content, which I now know from experience appeal to many people, Including individual collectors and dealers. Newcastle upon Tyne England has been a hotbed of heavy Industry since the beginning of the industrial revolution, most of which has now gone forever. A lot of my paintings are recollections of youthful images of the period, late 1940s and 1950s. They are inspired by local naïve and primitive pitmen artists I am also an admirer of L.S.LOWRY, and the great American artist EDWARD HOPPER .AND GRANMA MOSES among others. I have a collection of my daughters drawings from over the years. I picked out some from Alex’s first two years at school, ( because at the moment she’s drawing aliens), which I’ve digitally collaged and painted as true to her colours as I could.

This painting was inspired by the raging snowstorms that swept parts of America that I saw on TV last week. I love the snow but prefer to see it from a warmly heated room outside the window. (The figure and pose was borrowed from a book as no life model was available). / Essentially, the painting is concerned with the passing of time. This is illustrated symbolically by objects like the Metronome (used to beat time when playing music) on top of the piano, the hourglass on the table and the goldfish swimming round continually. I’m also fascinated by contrasts. In this case the raging snowstorm outside the calm, warm and silent room. I have posted some fragments of the epic poem ‘Seasonal Affective Disorder’ by Simon R Gladdish which touches on time…. An extended meditation on the / Nature of time and its effects Time is a stream / On its way to the sea, / Leapfrogging the waterfalls, / Untrammelled and free. / / Time is a pyramid / Lost in the sands. / A peculiar liquid / Which runs through our hands. Time is the blues / When your lover has gone; / The insatiable muse / That won’t leave us alone. Time is a goldcrest / Trapped in a cage. / Time is the palimpsest / Under the page. Right. Let me give an explanation for putting this one up - I have been tossing up whether or not to do this design for the last month. I know its pushes the bad taste boundaries & I don’t want to be known as a ‘smutty’ artist, however every time I thought about it I did laugh & thats my goal – to make people laugh. So for the sake of humour I decided to go for it. Enjoy
