Kaua’i, Hawaii. I’ve been to this under-rated island the first time for our honeymoon in 2004. When we took on the difficult 11-mile Kalalau Trail, I knew that wasn’t the last time I’ll be walking its deliciously muddy path. In 2008, I found myself tromping the same slick trail. It was as beautiful and rewarding as I remembered it to be. The best part of that hike? The chance to share it with our son (then 7 months old) who was such a trooper in his backpack carrier. I took this shot with him squirming behind me, eager to see what the fuss was all about ;)

When it comes to military aviation photography, shots like these are just “it” as far as I’m concerned. Look at that vapor around the trail edge of the wing, is that not awesome?
I crossed paths with this handsome young buck in velvet while hiking deep in the woods of Cades Cove, Smoky Mountains, Tennessee, USA. He seemed to be such a gentle creature, enjoying the new leaves of spring. He allowed me to photograph him for quite a while, as long as I stood very still. He always kept one eye on me as he enjoyed the tender vegetation. Other works in the Cades Cove Collection: Check out these other great animal cards: (Simply Click on the thumbnail to purchase!)
This Hawai’ian womans eyes remind the viewer of Pele, the Fire Goddess of Hawai’i. Although she is the creator of our land, you must not cross her path, with ill intentions, or you will pay a price.

Beauty is Eternally Free / Hamoa Beach Maui Hawai’i I picked some fresh Plumeria blossoms and a branch of blooming Bougainvillea and tossed them onto the luxurious black sand of Hamoa Beach and was only able to get a couple of shots when a wave came in and carried them out to sea. This was a drawing I did many years ago. I coloured it in photoshop and added a filter to spruce it up a bit.
This was the moment I was hoping for after eleven very strenuous miles on a muddy, narrow trail. We photographers go fishing every day, mostly we get nibbles, but sometimes we land a whopper. I am so proud of this image because I went out to shoot this scene very intentionally. It was very hard work, and this will pay off. The Na Pali Trail winds along the steep and rugged coastline of Kauai’s North shore, and ends in the legendary Kalalau Valley—the place is nearly mythical in its beauty.
