  • This blanched sunken log reaching desperately to the sky was photographed at Myall Lakes system, between Newcastle and Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a most grey, overcast and damp summer day. Though the weather was foul, the light was great for monochrome photography so I set my exposures for a high contrast. • This very unusual waterscape was photographed at Hearts Point, (Neranie Head), in the Myall Lakes system, between Newcastle and Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a most grey, overcast and damp summer day. Thousands of pieces of timber lie fully or partially submerged all over this part of the headland. They are known as “hearts” and are the off-cuts from the centre wood of felled ironbark and turpentine trees which were cut in the 1880s. These cast offs were deliberately placed out into the water to form a sort of breakwater to protect the ships and barges when unloading their cargos of timber. Over time storm and silt and occasionally the ha d of man have shifted these timbers around and left this strange waterscape. Though the weather was foul that day it made fantastic contrasts so my exposure and processing was aimed at producing monochrome images of this odd piece of Aussie history. • Watercolour painting of night approaching at Myall Lakes, Australia. Painted to keep the memories alive of when we used to camp here with the children right on the water’s edge many years ago. Such a beautiful, peaceful place. Night approaches across the skies / the landscape dims under the blink of an eye, / the sun is setting the cool night draws near / shadows fall but there is nothing to fear. • This foul weather photograph was made at a café on the shores of Wallis Lake, in the Myall Lakes system, between Newcastle and Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a most grey, overcast and damp summer day. What caught my eye was the spotlight effect on the moored boat caused by the last trace of sunlight shining through a small break in the thickening clouds. I also noticed that the owner of the boat is into recycling as he has an empty plastic milk bottle tied onto the anchor rope as a float. Fuji S9600: f/8 @ 1/850sec, Auto Focus, hand held sitting on a bench. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3. Find out more about Myall Lakes if you wish. • Sunset on a beautiful wild beach. An almost empty beach that streched as far as the eye could see. I was taking photo’s of the looming sunset and then the person decided to wonder straight in to my view point – at first I was slightly frustrated as the sky/light was changing so quickly but then decided they were adding depth and feeling to the photo – so in the end, I was very grateful to have them wonder in to my photo.
