This is Bindi, my little mutt ragdoll angora ferret. She was just 9 months old when I took this photo. Bindi will be 2-years old in September. It was pure luck that I got this shot. She is probably the hardest of my ferrets to photograph as she is so tiny and fast. I will never get this shot again, it was a once in a blue moon shot. She barely weighs a pound, she came from Carolina Ferrets out of North Carolina. She is so sweet. Best viewed larger

thanks to Bruce Dickson for suggesting the title “Mutts and pups”
Tucker was from a litter that was found in a bag dumped in a ditch and someone stopped and saved them. He was brought home by my son as a small pup. The girl that had him couldn’t keep him at the apartment. He has a loving family here. Heidi and Koko resort to mental telepathy. Would you be surprised to know that it didn’t work? The M&M’s guys did not divulge the secret to getting the candy out of the dispenser. Love this one of her :) — For Playful Photogenic Pets’ challenge, ‘How has your pet made a difference in your life?’ and also for the Rescued Pets group- I rescued Scarlet around two years ago. She was bred by a backyard breeder and dumped at a shelter very early on in life. She spent 6 months in the shelter and was to be put to sleep – no one had shown any interest in her and she was going kennel mad. I didn’t think I could let this dog, who had been brought into the world, only to spend her entire life in a kennel get put to sleep, so I put in an application to adopt her and within 3 days, she was mine. I’ve not once regretted the somewhat impulsive decision to rescue her. She is my heart dog and I love her to pieces. All she ever wants to do is be with me and all she has ever shown me is love. I’ve been sick for 5 years and having her in my life has made being unwell just that little bit easier. When I’m feeling down, she persists with silly behaviour until I crack a smile and when I’m unwell, she simply sits or lies with me – just being in her presence makes me feel more relaxed. She has most certainly made a positive difference in my life and I’m very thankful for it. — Taken with: Canon 40D / Lens used: 1.4 50mm / Shutter speed: 1/100 / F number: 1.4 / ISO: 400

FEATURED AUG 2009 PAWS N CLAWS / FEATURED NOV 2009 MUTTS / Another from my travels in Dubrovnik. This time one of the many locals pooches who enjoy their freedom on the sidewalks and promenades. / Our daily paths crossed his, and he was happy to connect, and happy for the road. He cocked his ears like that especially for the camera. / It is interesting to observe the roles of pets in different cultures, the amount of pampering vs.freedom we afford them.

FEATURED PAWS ‘N’ CLAWS OCT 2009 / FEATURED CATS AND DOGS OCT 2009 / FEATURED OCT 2009 MAN’S BEST FRIEND’S / MADE TOP TEN IN TOOTHY CHALLENGE MAN’S BEST FRIEND It was love at first sight at the park the other day. Who could resist his charms? Somehow, I imagined him to speak with the voice of Bogie, and I was his Bacall- “Play it again Sam.” / / I haven’t submitted a “dog shot” in a while it seems, I remember my first week on RB, it was all dogs, and mostly my dog with a few notable exceptions, heh heh Anyway, I still love ‘em..haven’t met one I didn’t like. This handsome bitser is a tribute the Angel of Dogs in Peru, my dear bubble-friend Viktoryia, who is passionate about the cause of the neglected street dogs, and whose shots of these vulnerable creatures never fail to move my heart. Bravo my bravehearted friend. / This beautiful dog is obviously well cared for and loved, though I recall his owner thought I didn’t stand much chance of a decent shot because of his dark coloring.
This picture was first published in the August 2009 issue of National Geographic. The band, Weezer, decided that they wanted to use it as the cover of their latest release, “Raditude.”
FEATURED OCT 2009 PAWS n CLAWS / FEATURED NOV 2009 NUTS ABOUT MUTTS Oodles of Groodle shots. A Groodle is a Poodle-Golden retriever Hybrid. Enjoyed a hec of a shoot during a break we took to walk our Taka (not pictured here for a change) down at a nearby creek, where we met this amazing pooch. Not the cleanest of outings, but one of the funnest for sure! / Not all the photos below have been uploaded live yet, not wishing to implode you all with oodles of Groodles… Nikon D70s / Sigma 30-200mm lens / f/6 / 1/2000sec / 135mm focal length / Picasa and PSE for minor crop and contrast. /

This is for a challenge. Meet Ralph- our friends’ Maltese/Shi Tzu Cross, who is a little curious about the pet guinea pig.
A little late in putting this in, on 11/20/09 we had Harley three years. We adopted him when he was 6 years old. He is a Golden Retriever/Austrian Shepard mix, maybe even a little Chow in there also. Before getting with us, he would have a home for awhile, then lose it again an back to the shelter. Well Harley is finally home, everyone one who knows him says he has finally come full circle. / Harley is home where he belongs, FOREVER! Featured in phoDOGraphy 11/24/09
