So named because this is my violin and my son’s first violin. It tugs on my heart whenever I look at it. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / Taken with a Kodak DX6490 in manual mode. / F-stop, 4 / Shutter speed, 4 / Indirect lighting / Colour: sepia Post processing: / lightened the exposure to bring out the shadow ( a dear friend actually did that. This was a few months ago with my old camera, and less experience) I took 105 shots before I got the one I wanted, first going outside in colour, coming in, experimenting with the light. Learned a lot!
in the little town i live in, townsend tn., we have this old timers bluegrass festival. / you will see people of all ages young and old, enjoying bluegrass and gospel music. you can see what the ” old days” were like with old tractors, old single engines running homemade ice cream machines, balers, all sorts of mechanical apperatis. / one of the things i love about the festival is how each little band forms their own circle, and just plays to whomever wants to stand around and listen. / there are fiddles, violins, cellos, basses, banjos, all sorts of musical instruments. / this one guy had what looks to be a guitar turned right side up, and picking it. / so something just said..shoot it..and i did :)
whilst the girls were out with the Chaboussant this morning at repetition I had a little lookie around to try out my new lens!! Chloe had been playing “The Streets of London” before leaving so I used her guitar and music to create something a little different (for me!) So many tugs on my heartstrings / I don’t know where to start / So try I will to list some things / These few I will impart / / The thickest string that tugs each day / Stroked gently by my wife / With love and passion she does play / The key note in my life / / Next comes the chord of parenthood / Three strings that harmonize / And since their birth I understood / Heaven’s not in the skies / / The oldest strings played as a pair / By my dear Mum and Dad / Ring notes of hope when in despair / Since I was just a lad / / So many other finer strings / Played by the world around / I hear with each new note it brings / Life’s song, the sweetest sound / / This fractal artwork was inspired by the word ‘heartstrings’ that I have heard since I was a tot. I have attempted to give a new spin on this word in both the artwork and poem. I have been a guitarist since I was seven, and it is with that perspective I give this old word new meaning. Strings that play the score of love. / / The fractal was created in Apophysis. The original is 6000×4800 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. The fractal gradient was created with ApoMap, a gradient editor commonly used with Apophysis. The gradient layer used as the background was created in Photoshop. Because the original is so large and difficult to see over the internet, I have included a couple of detail cutaways below. / / / / / /
Acrylic On Canvas (Image has been digitally manipulated) What if you woke up one day and to your amazement found a tree growing on your head with all your favorite things? It did happen to one girl whose name was Christabel…some said she became a tree eventually….and if you ever see a tree growing with teacups and music notes, that’s her :D / You can view and buy my other “She Grows A Tree” creations from my Zazzle Gallery:
I purchased this violin back in 96’, as i was reading the book The Artist’s Way by: Julia Cameron. Looking for my ‘inner artist’. well, i think i found it. Although . . .it never came through the strings of the violin, more through the lens of my camera. When i did play (and i played often) . . it was more noise and scratching rather than music . . my biggest fans were my 2 cats that sat endlessly at my feet and tilted their heads in sync to the ‘noise’. Perhaps it was music to their ears . . or just them amusing me! Anyway – i still have the violin, but get something other than music from it, I got this series!

I was in Florence,Oregon at their Saturday market and notice a luthier stand. I’ve never seen violins on display like this before. They are such gorgeous instruments to photograph. I almost bought one just for the pleasure of being able to photograph it.
