Ian Rilen was a legendary Sydney rock and roller and a member of bands such as Rose Tattoo, X and Sardine V. He died earlier this year and is much missed for his wild and wonderful ways. I found this candid back stage shot of him and his then wife Stephanie preparing to go onstage at the Trade Union Club in Sydney’s Surry Hills way way back in the early 80’s. They were in Sardine V at that time and when I look at this shot now the eighties rush back. Oh my misspent youth. :) So Vale Ian Rilen, I so hope things are rocking were ever you are. This shot is for you.
This illustration was inspired by the Rolling Stones song “Paint it Black”. Its also a completely unintential Red Bubbly illustration. but hey who doesn’t love a red balloon.. oh, I guess this girl doesnt.. : )
What do you get when you put my bullet belt, my shecter, me in cheetah stilettos and fishnet and a 10 second timer? you get this motha licker / (haha, old gregg reference) like the common “sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll” motto, i’ve put my interpritation on it. sex (the fishnets and stilettos) drugs (bullet belt) rock n’ roll (guitar) / now for the whole drugs thing, its a common thing among rock stars to be druggies or alcoholics, and the music scene i’m most into is the punk/ska scene, with one of the trademarks being the bullet belt (and my zebra guitar strap fits in nicely with it)

For Paul Stephen Dixon / the heART, creator and our cohost for MIA , or Musically Inspired Art… Thanks Paul, for being the HeART of Rock n’ Roll, classical, gospel, new age, easy listening, jazz, blues, country for us here at RedBubble!!! Always know that you are special, you are valued and you are loved by us all ;) This initially was a photograph of a shadow of my hand holding a heart shaped crystal, I began playing in photoshop7, then used Fractilius to finish it off to represent… / The heART (chakra) resonates to the colors green and pink and relates to the capacity to express ourselves emotionally, especially while participating in true relationships/partnerships in which both individuals are equally powerful and equally vulnerable. Love and relationship with balance, mutual respect, compassion and self acceptance; with the ‘lessons’ of “FORGIVENESS” based on compassion for oneself and others, as the key to healing the heART. As I am grateful for all the love that is in my life, I share this with all who need healing for their hearts…

The summer of 1969 was a time of change. It was the year of the Beatles swansong, the first manned moon landing, and hippies protested and clashed with the establishment over U.S. involvement in Vietnam. On a dairy farm in the town of Bethel in upper state New York, the greatest musical and cultural event of the millenium happened. The Woodstock Music & Arts Fair, billed as an Aquarian Exposition, was held during the weekend of August 15th through the 17th. Starring thirty top names in popular entertainment, the Woodstock Festival’s attendance was unprecedented for the time / Attendance estimates vary from source to source, ranging anywhere from about 75,000 on the low side, to well over 1,500,000 on the high side. The best guess, which is close to the average of all estimates, would be between a third to a half million people. It’s impossible to determine exact numbers, as the fences around the site were never completed in time, so tickets were never taken – it was a free concert. / For “three days of peace & music” Woodstock was a living, breathing, working city. In the last great multi-day music festival of our time, the young people showed the world that all those hippies could co-exist for a prolonged period of time without a catastrophe (and with little or no police intervention). / THE ARTISTS that made history… / Richie Havens / Sweetwater / Bert Sommer / Tim Hardin / Ravi Shankar / Melanie / Arlo Guthrie / Joan Baez / Quill / Country Joe McDonald / John B. Sebastian / Keef Hartley Band / SANTANA / Incredible String Band / Canned Heat / Grateful Dead / Creedance Clearwater Revival / Janis Joplin / Sly & the Family Stone / The WHO / Jefferson Airplane / Joe Cocker / Country Joe & the Fish / Leslie West/Mountain / Ten Years After / The Band / Johnny Winter / Blood, Sweat & Tears / Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young / Paul Butterfield Blues Band / Sha Na Na / Jimi Hendrix / Joni Mitchell As we approach the 40th Anniversary of the “Summer of 1969”, I thought it fitting to Launch a special challenge for our Musically Inspired Artists of MIA ~ the reason for this artwork… / Created with Wacom Pen in Photoshop with the exception of the original Woodstock poster in the center, using Redfield plug-in Fractilius filter, Poster edges and saturation filtering. Another in the series of ‘big watercolors,’ This was done using a combination of grumbacher and windsor newton paints on a very large (25×40) sheet of 300 lb arches paper. What I tend to like in general the most in watercolors like this is the background…letting the paint flow and do what it will. In this case, I wanted to simulate a fire in the background while still following that principle. I also tend to let the paper show through a fair amount, as you can see here.
Scott Kelby’s Second Annual Worldwide Photo Walk / Old Port, Montreal Quebec, CANADA / Saturday July 18th 2009 8:30 to 10:30 AM / It was a very wet and rainy morning. / Nikon D40, Nikkor VR 55-200mm lens / Taken inside the garden courtyard of a restaurant. / The Jazz combo was taking a break! / “Double basses are constructed from several types of wood, including maple for the back, spruce for the top, and ebony for the fingerboard. It is uncertain whether the instrument is a descendant of the viola da gamba or from the violin, but it is traditionally aligned with the violin family. While the double bass is nearly identical in construction to the other violin family instruments, it also has features which derive from the viols. Like many other string instruments, the double bass is played either with a bow (arco) or by plucking the strings (Pizz). In orchestral repertoire and tango music, both bowing and plucking styles are used. In jazz music, the bass is mostly plucked, except for some solos (and also occasional written parts in modern jazz) which are performed with the bow. In most other genres, such as blues and rockabilly, the bass is plucked.” / ~Wikipedia Softly As In A Morning Sunrise/Christian McBride Top ten placement in the Now Where Did I Put That Abstract, Anyway…Music of The Spirit group, December 2009 / Featured Inside Solo vol.20 (27/11/09)
