I am embarking on a new creative venture of re-interpreting and redesigning record covers with different materials to give them a third dimension, dynamic colours and tangible textures using everything from leather to stitching to coloured ink. This is all in the the belief that record covers are truely amazing pieces of artwork in their images and to make them more tangible would be a wounderful thing. I have already finished Belle and Sebastian “Tigermilk” which will be uploaded soon am working on Pink Floyd and the Sex Pistols and my interpretation of The Velvet Underground and Nico “Andy Warhol” is in my portfolio. You could have hanging on your wall a slightly different interpretation of a record cover that has meant something to your life and that you really appreciate for its design and for the music, culture and time that it symbolises. So I’m putting it out there to you my creative friends (that would be you and you) what are your favourite record covers and why? and if you are interested in ordering a design feel free to let me know. Also any other ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and I hope you enjoy what is to come xx

oh mi god! wow last night was awesome. my ear drums are ringing. I’ve stayed up late to rock out and I think, even after a shower, I still smell like a rock n roll girl! because / porcelain are and were always awesome there is no way to know what you missed, but you can hear it still here I decided not to bring my camera as I used to photograph them all the time-sometimes you need to enjoy from the other side (which is what my cuz said she enjoyed, as she used to be in the band-just to enjoy and not be ‘on’) but there were so many hello moments-the lead singer Lauryn / ‘Axel’ Roberts has changed since that photo-grown her hair long, it’s LA blonde, and when she does the head bangin’ thing, it looks awesome. Her voice is still rough and powerful and sweet. The guys are a tight, electric, loud, radio ready musicians and the electric violin is still a feature, with their new violinist lookin divine while revealing there is definitely a place for violin in rock n roll. the sonar bar is only two weeks old-but I bet being right under the harbour bridge will attract loads of artists. hopefully we’ll see porcelain again in australia-but it may be at the horden or somewhere big or just on massive billboards and delta goodrem level of airplay-get ready of porcelain overload soon!

Hey Everyone, I haven’t yet written a journal entry yet, mainly because I’m lazy and also because Lorie has been doing such a good job of it. But maybe it’s time to step forward a bit and let you in on a bit more about me. Many of you have left great comments about my cartooning and artwork, which is very encouraging indeed. Sometimes when inspiration is low, getting some supportive feedback can light the fire under by butt to work again. I know Lorie appreciates it massively as well. Basically my style is the sum of my influences, mostly from underground greats like Vaughn Bode and Robert Crumb. I also love silent animation of the twenties and look to early horror films for inspiration also. And speaking of horror, my 9 year old daughter Eve has been giving us some great ideas for horror and zombie based designs lately. Rarely have I ever been so proud in my time as a parent. The main thing in my life is music. I’ve been obsessed with it for a damn long time now, and it just gets more intense the older I get. When I’m not drawing, I play guitar, write music reviews, download old, rare albums and upload my writing to music sites like Rate Your Music. Here’s the link should you wanna check out my page. My activity in it is intense enough that Eve can identify different strains of heavy metal, just from her own listening experience. She doesn’t particularly like it, but she knows what it is, and that’s a start. I’m also interested in religion and history, especially when they include the more morbid periods in history. Where there’s torture, heresy, disease and blasphemy, you’ll find me as well. At least figuratively speaking. So there you go, my first entry! Any thoughts, comments or rotten tomatoes are welcome and encouraged, so let ‘em fly! Peace, Mike

I got a nice email today from a UK record company asking that i send them a CD of my music… / It’s very premature to say how this will all go, but i must confess it took me by suprise and has made me feel absolutly overjoyed that even the hint of a possibility of being able to make a pro-level CD… / man this could be sooo cooool.. anyways, / all this could turn to dust, and nothing happen, but i thought id have to let people know. As a bonus / here / is an electronic CD of mine you can download. / it has all the neccesary bits and pieces to get the 2 music files, covers and all that so you can burn the cd and have labels and stuff to have a physical cd too….

I have been without a record player for 4 year, and I’ve just remedied this with a Reba P1 & it is sweet, sooooo sweeeet! All these records I haven’t been able to listen to for 4 years are finally back on the turntable where they belong, making sweet sounds and bringing back some good old memories. Please indulge me for a moment, as I’m really excited :) Here’s the playlist: Uriah Heep, Yes, Hawkwind, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Bad Company, Simon & Garfunkle, Peter, Paul & Mary, The Beatles (my mums’ old record) The Everly Brother, Elvis (the record I got in 1977, when he died), John Denver, Rob Buchanan, John Mayall, David Lindley, Bobby Bland, Bony M, the soundtracks to: The Sting (RIP Paul Newman), Grease, Footloose and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Duran Duran, Abba, and some good old fashioned Aussie Rock & Pop in the form of Chain, Cold Chisel, Split Enz, Mondo Rock, The Flowers & Molly’s Aus. Evolution….. So I’m putting down the camera for a while – the weather’s crap anyway – Grabbing a drink, cranking up the volume & I’m gonna dance around the lounge room! Hope your all having a good Saturday nite too :) Cheers! Leanne : )

Hey all, I have been a busy one of late! Just wanted to let you know about something great thats going on behind the scenes here. Last night myself and Flic Manning had a photoshoot with other artists from various DNB and BREAKS crews. As you may know, Flic and I are partners in the group FIXD So, about 8:30pm we started shooting the photoshoot with TYMED CONSPIRACY, MC RAMI, GROUP THERAPY, ANGRY BUDA and SCOLLOP for the label BALCONY RECORDS. It was an awesome night and we had a photographer from Melbourne fly over to Perth to do the shoot. We did about 2-3 hours in the studio, with various keyboard, microphone props and then headed to a back alley to get some great graffiti art as backgrounds. After climbing up onto the roof to get the perfect shot, we headed to the Perth foreshore, where at the moment is a massive ‘Hollywood style’ sign of PERTH. So, about 1am we were standing in front of that and getting the last of the shots. It was a brilliant night and I will update you all with pictures in a few weeks (hopefully not too long). The next step is getting BalconyRecords.com up and running (which unfortunately I dont have control over) and then releasing our music through the label. SWEET! If you want to ask me anything about the shoot before the pics come in, or our music etc then fire away. But just had to tell someone! FIXD MUSIC

when i see wounderfully powerful photo’s such as jo’s . i sit back and think…did the photos we did evocate a responce, question/questioning and did they clearly convey a message / all listed below are on our home page www.redbubble.com/people/earhertchappel / “grey fetal pain” / this piece grey was to mean not clear as black and white / fetal was for baby /fetus / pain was for the loss / so what i was trying to say with this photo, is that a miscarriage / an abortion of the fetus was extremely painful.and that sometimes there are no clear cut answers why with a miscarriage, and how some women made a decision not to carry out their pregnancy, and that in most that i have spoken with the “why” factor in adulthood has them question the what if, and the pain a woman feels from the loss of her baby. “lilith with immortality and knowledge” / it is said that lilith in part snake like form tempted eve, to take from the tree an apple. / lilith had a choice the tree of knowledge and the tree of life.”knowledge” would give eve and adam the knowledge here are a few examples of knowledge good, evil, shame, / lilith could have temped eve with the fruit from the tree of life, but in doing so, they would become immortal. “the sin eve passed on” / from then till know we think of eve, as her actions created original sin. hence the passing of the cross to eve’s shoulders. as now since then have all been born with “original sin” cheers to you health / i edited this photo to not make the model perfect looking, as i was portraying a sin(a yellowing effect as when health issues arise from excess causes our body’s to change) of excess “gluttony” . as every time before this i have seen it done with food. i wanted to portray it different, as one needs food to live, but the intake of alcohol and drugs and cigarettes, are all harmful, yet some do in excess. so i wanted to take something that we did not need to survive on to live, to use in the photo for “gluttony”. “prides heavy vail” / quite simply i was trying to portray pride in this photo as a sin, showing the weight of pride with the head piece /vail. “the price” / simply choosing fame over faith, and i could elaborate for days on this one! “clear” / hands in the cross position to portray ones choice, sin, and sacrifice, for one to place others in front of god.trying to convey the lack in faith and the overwhelming obsession with those they seek out to be more important than god/ faith. “reach” / the position of being cornered, with no way out. with failed attempts of escape. “to shed some light on the idea” / to simply put it, the light bulb represents ideas and as it is high and in her mouth, / and the pride sharing the ideas. but at the same time a small element in thinking hers is above all others. these are just a few of our statement pieces. but i have to really congrats jo, as her, convey the point, of really equivocating her meaning.

Hi there friends, And Though We Fade Away is about to be licensed to Warner Music and in my agreement I won’t be able to sell prints of one of my most popular pieces. So And Though We Fade Away is now officially a limited edition print until I sign the contract in which the piece will no longer be available for purchase. / So if you really like this artwork and were planning on purchasing it either for yourself or a present for a loved one, you should get ya skates on! We will sign it off within the next 2 weeks. I should also note though that I am still free to exhibit the work in galleries and to have it included in my books, speaking of which! I’m planning a brand spanking new high quality portfolio book! The new book will be a collection of my most popular works as well as some that haven’t been released. A lot of you know that I don’t tend to tell people the stories behind my work, well it’s all coming out in my book! peace and love.

When a project has been a part of your life for many years, and then finally comes to fruition, it’s pretty wonderful. Art can be like that. There are all sort of reasons why we have unfinished works lying around, like when your mind goes in one direction, but your heart goes in the other… I stalled for years, (and i mean YEARS!) with my Whispers & Wishes CD. I wrote it near the start of my career, and did a flurry of a recording when opportunity knocked, just to “save if for the record”. I’d planned many ideas to resurrect the project, but still kept stalling and making excuses, until i decided enough was enough, and it was time to reworks these pieces. But i discovered that my heart was submerged in how they were. To change them would have been wrong. They spoke of a truth, and to try and reshape them would have meant changing that truth to something else. So instead, i decided to let go, and share the project as it was all those years ago. Available here / and at all good record stores and bookstores soon

As much as I don’t want to be instrumental in turning RB into ‘Son of Facebook’, I hope you’ll forgive me for posting this YT clip. It IS Christmas related however and is quite long, but I urge you to stick with it. I discovered it a couple of years ago and even in my darkest moments, if I spend a few minutes watching this, I always end up with a smile on my face. It is a celebration of what I like to call ‘the delightfulness of innocence’, something which is getting almost impossible to find now, especially involving ‘grown ups’. Even kids are losing it…. / I guarantee you will LOVE this. It’s a classic. Sid Laverents died in May 09 aged 101. / The world needs more Sid Laverents.

Hello peeps! The new videos on You Tube are very different then the previous ones. No animals featured and the music is a collaborative effort by the members of the group Caligator. Check out the band’s CD Baby web pages and listen to all the recordings the band created between the time before I started recording with them thru their recordings afterwards. The “videos” aren’t video proper as much as still images arranged in a coded fashion. When you see images of me, you’ll be hearing parts I was writing as I was performing/recording them. Most feature keyboard solos but some are photographs over parts that I was playing under the melodies. The reason for the visual coding is the fact that the keyboard sounds are extremely varied and, for some, not distinguishable from other instruments. Here are some of the sounds you’ll hear: acoustic pianos (Grand, upright, and ‘tack’), electric piano (Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer), organs (mostly Hammond B3 copies), lead synthesizer sounds (copying Pink Floyd, unusual customized instruments, and numerous speed metal bands), and synthesizer patches for ‘sound beds’ under other music. There are tunes I recorded with one single track utilizing multiple sounds I changed while still playing with one hand. The timing on those was critical since there was no time between the first instrument sound and the second instrument’s parts. (Also rather tricky to get perfect enough to not make one instrument sound louder than the other or editing the track would be a nightmare). The one regret is that I probably lost the recording session’s master shots in a hard drive crash; I had two of them between the sessions and a year ago. 95% of everything I have on computer is backed up. This session – the only shots of the live recording and taken with a cheapo camera’s timer – appears to fall into that missing 5%. :-( I hope you like the latest offerings, keeping in mind that I’m not playing guitars, basses, drums, percussion, or vocals (on videos to be uploaded in the future). But they also show some of the fastest, most accurate, and best conducted (Corky was often talking to me for “live” direction while I was recording). I can’t play like this anymore but I’m thrilled a lasting document was created of a portion of my best music work, if not best photography and editing. LOL! Have fun!
