A murmur in the trees to note, / Not loud enough for wind; / A star not far enough to seek, / Nor near enough to find; A long, long yellow on the lawn, / A hubbub as of feet; / Not audible, as ours to us, / But dapperer, more sweet; A hurrying home of little men / To houses unperceived,— / All this, and more, if I should tell, / Would never be believed. Of robins in the trundle bed / How many I espy / Whose nightgowns could not hide the wings, / Although I heard them try! But then I promised ne’er to tell; / How could I break my word? / So go your way and I’ll go mine,— / No fear you’ll miss the road…... Featured in Light In The Darkness June 10, 2009. Best viewed full size I love waking up to the sound of birds singing … we frequently have mourning doves nesting in the tree outside one of our bedroom windows. I hope the owners of this house enjoy their little feathered visitor, too!! Image taken in Tucson, Arizona on April 19, 2009 with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens … post processed in Photomatix from a single hand-held image at +/-2 eval, then some tinkering in Photoshop.
Inspired by The Murmurs song, “You Suck”. This is probably my first non-cat artwork for some time. / Acrylic on Canvas, 40×50cm, 4 July 2009

This was completed for the Scottish Drawing Competition 2009 at the Paisley Art Institute. It was accepted and hung at Paisley Museum during the exhibition. It is a pencil drawing on cartridge paper with some light pastel colouring. I used my trusty mechanical pencil with 2B lead – always sharp and no having to sharpen. Though there’s a less broad choice of stroke, sometimes this can bring a uniformity if required. It’s, I think, approx. 50×30 cm.
