  • This cute baby monkey named Chi lost it’s mother to poachers. It is now being cared for at the Chiang Mai Monkey School, a place that looks after sick and abandoned primates. Chi loves to eat beans.

  • A California ground squirrel (Spermophilus beecheyi) is feeding on wild grass. Cambria California —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—--

  • Mama has dropped her litter somewhere and is just STARVING in the mornings. I guess a lot of breast feeding makes for a really famished rodent because she will run to me from anywhere in or around Weedy Field to get her four peanuts. Occasionally, she must be occupied with squirrel business because she’s a few minutes late and has to go to the usual stash I hide in Cone Grove for just her and Papa. But one way or another, I see her with her morning munchies before I have to return to the ‘salt mine’. Mama gets so close these days you can look into her eyes and see the surrounding human taking impolite pictures while someone is eating. LOL!

  • Today was Early Opening Day at Roxborough State Park – the park usually opens around 0700 in the summer, but today was open at 0500. Being the masochist I am, I was there bright and early, hoping to see some of the more reclusive wildlife in the park (black bears, mountain lions, bobcats). It was a beautiful morning, with an almost full moon setting over the red rocks. What did I manage to see? A skunk who was too bashful for a photograph, and lots and lots of mule deer. This little doe wandered right by me – almost too close.
