As I said on my “Polar Love” image, this was the best day of our Arctic trip. We were so lucky to spend hours with this mum and cubs as they moved around the ice flows. This is an acrylic painting I did a couple of years ago in South Africa, now in my wife’s private collection :) Lets try to keep these amazing cats sleeping peacefully under the stars for as long as possible.

‘Iliki’ Spirit of Aloha is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper using ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal. My darling ‘Illiki’ was inspired by James Michener’s novel ‘Hawaii’ and the beautiful young hawaiian girl who is one of the charming characters early on in the story. I was completely swept away during the reading of this incredible novel, highly recommended reading :D

Yes, they are my feet and I’m relaxing on the beach watching the kids play in the water. I gave this image some texture and it reminds me of a very lazy, Aussie summer’s day at the beach.

They will fly up to 50 kilometers, (31 miles), to find food and even develop a flight pattern that they follow everyday. During the winter seasons when the food is scarce they will eat fruits that are laid out for them by people. At the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary in Queensland, the visitors are asked to hold food out for the birds when they arrive in groups of hundreds at around 4pm. They will perch on people’s arms and heads to be fed. Rainbow Lorikeets make very good pets because they can be tamed so easily and have a fun natured temperament.

This Polar Bear mum and cubs were a long way out on the sea ice looking for seals. / / The sea ice is shrinking at an alarming rate, which has a huge impact for the bears as this is their main hunting ground. More and more bears are being found to have drowned while trying to find the ice, even though they can swim up to sixty miles or so! / / I hope the ice does not completely vanish and that they always have somewhere to hunt! / / (Spitsbergen – Scandinavian Arctic) / >< / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /
