Photo capture of a small school of mullet in the shallows of the mangrove flats. / While on the boardwalk out over the flats…I was lucky to come across this school and with very lite foot work was able to watch them because they spook very easily….this is the only fish I know that has a gizzard like a bird…go figure.Canon XTi using a Canon 55-250mm zoom f/5.6 160 shutter speed. / /

The Subject: / This rather chubby low slung lizard is a great specimen of Egernia major (Land Mullet), the largest of the Skink family. It was about 14inches (35cm) long. The Location”: / Along a cliff top track at the south end of Sea Acres Nature Reserve, Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia on a hot summer day. The Making of ‘Egernia major (Land Mullet)’: / It was the first time I had ventured along that track so I did not know what to expect really. There were some good seascapes, wildflowers, a Skipper Moth and suddenly out of the undergrowth this wonderful Aussie lizard. / Fuji S9600: f/5 @ 1/170sec, ISO80, Popup flash at mid-power, Hand held. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3. Mullet+Pokies+Smokes=Bogans…what more can i say…
Australias largest skink species, the Land Mullet, Egernia major, will often retreat into thick undergrowth when approached. This Land Mullet was enjoying the afternoon sun filtered by the bush canopy as he basked on the stump of a large tree.
A little like a red herring . . . only different.
The Land Mullet is one of the world’s largest skinks. They inhabit the rainforests surrounding the Gold Coast (Queensland, Australia) where this particular specimen was photographed. This guy was sunning himself behind a log when i took the shot using part of the log to frame the head.
Monsar. A series of Aussie slang inspired T-Shirts. I know half the world thinks we have weird sayings, I don’t deny it, I embrace it :-)
I have to give credit to my friend John for helping me with this picture. I took his shots he took mine then I compiled them together and made a masterpiece. Couldn’t have done it without you girl.
