Mudflats

  • My most popular work to date…. This photograph was taken on a gorgeous evening following a pacific storm that rolled through the northwest. The Columbia River, where this was taken, spans out almost five miles at the mouth. During low tide, mudflats expose and reflect the colors of the sunset for gorgeous photographs. This evening was exceptional with the fast moving thunderclouds passing by, lighting up the sky. Post-processing include HDR, and some dodging to even out the balance of the photo. / I hope you like it!

  • The Sarah Ellen on Arnside Beach, Cumbria, England. The Kent Viaduct carrying the Furness Railway across Morecambe Bay is in the background

  • One image from the trip to Arlie Beach i crash out…pretty dissapointed….the vine forest was to dark often to photograph birds with any decent shutter speed, and the monopod didnt even help a great deal…will need to upgrade my $20 tripod! lol….I did not even have time to do any landscapes….this is one of two from this morning before packing up the equipment for the flight home. This is a tidal mudflat just outside of town…an great array of migratory waders which i never had time to check out…

  • Low tide at Torbul, north of Brisbane.

  • Trusting the judgement of my friend-with-the-boat, I went crabbing on the mudflats of Broome… and realised too late that the tide was not going to wait for us to pull up our crab nets… and yes, we got stuck. Ugh. The mud was oozy grey sludge and after sinking in (thigh-deep) trying in vain to unstick the boat (whose brilliant idea was that??) we waited – shivering miserably – until the tide came back a couple of hours before midnight… But I did get a couple of nice photos from the experience ;) Taken with a Kodak Easyshare M1033
