Back to one of my favourite places (and subjects!) the Jamison Valley. / The ever changing climatic conditions means that this place is rarely the same twice. / Mt Solitary in the background.
This was taken one morning on a ride up Mt.Dandenong in Melbourne. We had just reached an altitude where the sun was coming through the top of the fog that was enveloping the rest of the city. / This was taken just before this picture : Breaking Through ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature
Taken on Mt.Dandenong during a foggy morning at an altitude where I was just below the top of the fog allowing separate sun rays to stream through and be caught by the thinning fog. / This was taken just after this picture : Out of the Fog ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature
Shot at Mt Wilson. / Special thanks to a good mate, Ken Lees, whose help with this shot was invaluable.
A magnificent sky erupting over Mt. Rainier and the still waters of a small alpine tarn of the crest trail.
A pastel sunset over Mt. Rainier with a lenticular cap on top and the fog rising out of the valley below. All reflected in a small alpine lake near the crest of the Cascade Mountains
One of the more beautiful sunsets I have witnessed over Mt. Rainier and all reflected in the still waters of Upper LAke Tipsoo
A major early snow storm blanketed the Cascade Mountains. A small lake nearly froze over by winter cold offers a bit of a reflection as Mt. Rainier looms in the background capped by a lenticular cloud cap. A pristine view one can linger on if you can stand the cold.
This is a cement tube under the Mt. Baldy Dam. In the 1970’s when this was taken this place was hard to get to and in without being busted. But get in we did… That is my brother Todd on the wall, a natural skate boarder from the start.
Mt. Edgecumbe, a small volcano off the coast of Sitka Alaska is rarely visible and certainly in my 20 years of traveling up there I have never once seen the sun set over Edgecumbe like this. Truly inspiring light!
A perfect winters morning, great light and a rare perfect reflection. I took many shots that morning but had to wait a few weeks to get my film back to see if any had come out. This was the one where everything came together, composition, light and technique. To balance the amazing disparity in light between the shadowed foreground and the bright background I used an ND4 Graduated filter. This filter balances the exposure by only letting one quarter of the light through the top part of the lens as compared to the bottom. The eye is so sophisticated that it automatically compensates for these differences so judging the effects of the filter is basically an educated guess and because I shoot on film I have no on location way of assessing the results and re-shooting if I mess it up. This shot is one of my all time personal favourites. It was also the group avitar for ‘All water and seascapes’ a little while back and was my first laminated print sale on the bub. Fall color explodes in the meadows around Mt. Rainier. A great day this was hiking with my 12 year old daughter.
You haven’t conquered the west ‘til you’ve climbed the BIG ONE.
Autumn leaves float on the still waters of Bench Lake as Mt. Rainier emerges from some morning clouds
A storm gathering over Mt. Rainier from near the skyline trail with a meadow of lupine.
Mt. Rainier glowing under the light of a new day as the lupine and aster line an alpine lake.
To catch the sun rising over the mountain requires a 3AM wakeup call 2 hour drive and a short 1 mile hike to waters edge. In my book worth it! Dawn illuminates the cloud-capped peak of Mt. Rainier as it reflects in the the still waters of Bench Lake
Constant down pours for more than a week have produced some amazing sights around Uluru. Usually bone dry sand and dust is transformed into a tropical garden if only for a short time. Storm clouds seem to spew from top of majestic M. Rainier, almost as if this active volcano was erupting. Lupine and buttercup dot the alpine meadow in the foreground.
Misty haunting morning this morning, sitting in a pine plantation at Mt Burr in the Limestone Coast area of South Australia. Last hints of fog lifting as the sun rose towards a clear blue sky. Canon 400D 18-55 lens with ND4 filter. Three shot HDR converted in Photomatix and cropped to size. Damn it was cold!!!!!!!!!!
Out early this morning to watch the sun rise through the fog in a pine plantation at Mt Burr – Limestone Coast South Australia. Certainly worth the cold to see the beauty as the sun tried to force its way into the forest. Canon 400D 18 – 55 with ND4 filter. Processed in Photoshop CS3.
stand there in the shadow of a whispers dream / hoping to feel a brush of your wishes floating down / there’s something in this air that chills the way you feel / now I’m running into you but the colours aren’t feeling true / so I’m stuck inside old dreams we can’t breathe a word / that would make this fall apart / there’s nothing in your mind / that trickles into your heat / and the silence still remains / like when the rain has struck the ground / the miracle you tried to find / was hoping to stay lost I swept the world for signs to prove they were not there / they followed you till dawn then fell straight off the earth / so keep me safe today, windows and worlds locked away / I’m trying not to hide as the years moved into the night / where your stuck inside old dreams we can’t breathe a word / that would make you fall apart / there’s nothing in your mind / that trickles into your heat / and the silence still remains / like when the rain has struck the ground / the miracle you tried to find / was hoping to stay lost you were not there you were not there you were not there -me
