Despite having been working here for a while, I’ve only now been given some responsibilities. This is partly due to the nature of things I suppose, and also because the day I started all the biscuits disappeared from the staff kitchen. It had absolutely nothing to do with me, but nonetheless my reputation was held into question. Anyway, everyone seems to have forgotten now, and they’ve put me in charge of a few things, so if you’re keen to find out about such excitements as Buyer’s Booth winners then you may want to keep an eye on me. Bye.

Hello! My name is Mr Baxter, and I’m going to tell you a story. As we’ve had a few new members of staff join RedBubble recently, not least myself, we thought it was about time to remind everyone exactly how all the marvellous products that adorn the office and so many of your homes are actually made. However, they are mainly made in the Australian countryside, or Horsham, to be more specific, which is a very long drive. So to avoid the sort of fights that prolonged time on a bus normally brings, we decided to steal a plane. It wasn’t very big, but it fitted us all neatly, and afforded remarkable views of Melbourne as we left. This thoroughly made up for the brutal hour in which we were forced to rise. Above you can see the machine we use to print all the posters, it was most excited to meet Xavier, having heard a great deal about his habits, unkempt hair and dancing skills. Xavier returned the favour by immediately logging on and buying this. Here are some RedBubble greeting cards winging their way through a printer. Of course our cards are hand finished so here is the lovely lovely lovely Jo, finishing a card, with her hands, after being taught by the excellent Rachel. Next up were the framed prints. You can see Michael carefully selected the right one, before Nepal exhibits his trademark ‘Dust-a-tron’ technique, where he stares at the dust very hard until it GOES AWAY. And finally there are his hands sealing the frame and the print so no pesky dust can get back in when he isn’t looking. Here’s an evocative shot of a sturdy Eucalyptus Regnans frame being wrapped with canvas. In about a week this will be significantly brightening a wall somewhere in the world. This was a tense moment as Martin read out the latest Employee of the Month. I did not win, again. Martin did. Again. And here’s Martin and Paul being shown the joys of the matted prints by Andrew. Although Paul doesn’t look too happy, perhaps the print has not been cut right, perhaps it is Andrew’s tie, we’ll never know. No school expedition would ever be complete without a group photo, so here it is, and for those who like to put faces to names: (clockwise from top left) Geoff, Martin, Paul C, Paul P, Troy, Xavier, and the lovely Jo. Of course that isn’t the whole team, no, Pete was guarding the plane, Paul V couldn’t find any clothes, Russ was saving the world somewhere else, Jason was making sure Sacramento was behaving itself, Rhana was on a hill in Tasmania and Nat and Ed were both asleep. In different parts of London. 10,496 miles away from the event. And of course, I was behind the lens. With a little bit of help from Jo. I trust that this has been informative. Please keep an eye on me for more of the same. Regards, Mr Baxter – Chief Detective Inspector of Newsworthy Journal Posts
Hello You! Word just came through the ranks and…
Hello You! Word just came through the ranks and I have been given charge of our delicious Buyers’ Booth, which is most exciting for me. Anyway as far as I can make out the rules are quite simple. Grab your recent RedBubble purchase, whatever it may be, and get a picture of it, and you, or your dog, upload here, sit back, have a cup of tea and see if you win. Pretty simple eh? What criteria might I use when deciding? Well, this is a site all about creativity, so let’s put that at the top of the list, and then put comedy at the bottom, but not put anything in between. So creativity and/or comedy. I’ll be posting here every friday, so keep an eye on me. June 26 Champion Please take a moment to cast your eyes over this weeks winner. It’s not just the perfectly suited medium of canvas to really bring depth to the image that caught my eye, nor even the indoor evergreen plant in the top right, clearly hinting at the new life brought to this forgotten civilisation. But the mannequin itself, a subject so often ignored. Merely an anatomical coat hanger. But here she is no ordinary dummy, this host has been suitably attired for her role, bangles, eyeliner, lipstick and a well fitting tee, she thrusts the image into our faces, impossible to ignore. Marvellous. A well directed shot, congratulations WarriorPrincess a voucher will soon be pinging into your inbox. See you all next week.

Hello World! Welcome to Mr Baxter’s Picture of the Week. Each and every Monday I shall peruse the last seven days of images and find one that catches my eye, then post it here, write about it and even link to it from my Twitter account. The winning image will be on sale at a 0% markup for the week, and any sales generated in that time will get the artist double the earnings in RedBubble vouchers at a standard 30% markup. They will also receive a special commemorative certificate and of course exposure, not the sort that gets you arrested though. / / —-—-—- Picture of the Week Champion – Week One – aspenrock Would you just look at this marvellous collection of black and white pixels, even devoid of colour the story is so strong. And none of it is even in the picture, it’s really all about what’s happening outside the door. Is there a fight going on? Some dancing goats? A Formula 1 pit stop? We’ve no idea, but it draws us in and tears at our minds. She’s Jules Winnfield staring into Marsellus Wallace’s briefcase. Books have been written on this unseen. It’s emotive and silent, but leaves me clawing for answers. Good Work AspenRock. —-—-—-- Go and show her your love. Hello World! To compliment Monday’s Picture of the Week, may I present Wednesday’s T-Shirt of the Week. Again I shall take a gander at the recent uploads of tees and find one that catches my eye, then post it here, write about it and even link to it from my Twitter account. The winning shirt will be on sale at a 0% markup for the week, and any sales generated in that time will get the artist double the earnings in RedBubble vouchers at a standard 30% markup. They will also receive a special commemorative certificate and of course fame, not the sort that sends you crazy though. / / —-—-—- T-Shirt of the Week Champion – Week One – dylangould Now at first glance you may think this to be a standard type tee, but it’s really so much more. Let’s start with the words, ‘I Like Llamas’, fine use of a gentle but sharp serif font, particularly nice tail on the ‘a’, displaying a passion but not an exaggeration (or a fetish). Not ‘I Love Llamas’, (or woe betide ‘I Heart Llamas’) just a simple and more importantly accurate ‘Like’. And who doesn’t? / Then the drawing, a modest sketch but with so much emotion. The Llama appears as if on a windswept hill, crying out for your attention, will you give it to him? The answer is yes Dylan, the answer is yes. Good Work There. —-—-—-- / Now go show him some love. Hello World! Yes, it’s Wednesday AGAIN, so it must be T-Shirt of the Week. Every seven days I’ll take a gander at the recent uploads of tees and find one that catches my eye, then post it here, write about it and even link to it from my Twitter account. The winning shirt will be on sale at a 0% markup for the week, and any sales generated in that time will get the artist a 60% margin in RedBubble vouchers. They will also receive a special commemorative certificate and of course fame, not the sort that sends you crazy though. / / —-—-—- T-Shirt of the Week Champion – Week Two – seanseen This has that wonderful and unique feel of being made with a human hand and a pencil. Well I mean it shouldn’t be unique, most of us have hands and pencils, but sometimes it feels that way. / Seriously, look at that turntable, it really has no idea where it’s perspective is, how marvellous, I wish my turntable looked like that, and it’s playing a yellow vinyl. What could it be? The re-release of Yellow Submarine? The special edition of The Velvet Underground and Nico? Who knows, but what on earth are you doing upstairs? Get down there and cut some moves across your 1968 Ege Rya shag-pile rug. Or just go and see who’s fiddling with your record collection. / / A well placed, well coloured and nicely styled drawing. Hello World! Because I am a man of routine, it’s Picture of the Week time again. Every seven days I’ll peruse the recent image uploads and find one that catches my eye, then post it here, write about it and even link to it from my Twitter account. The repetitive but informative bit: / The winning image will be on sale at a 0% markup for the week, and any sales generated in that time will get the artist a 60% margin in RedBubble vouchers. They will also receive a special commemorative certificate and of course exposure, not the sort that gets you arrested though. / / —-—-—- Picture of the Week Champion – Week Three – Matthew Parsons This is crazy, a muted ‘70s postcard, an abstract shape lovefest and a still from a Tim Burton movie rolled into one, with some subtle vignetting to draw you to the eyes. Not that you really need it, they’re MASSIVE. What is that thing? A tug boat? Tug boat builders in Canada have the sort of comedy streak we need to see in our politicians. And in the corner, ‘La Petite’, surely some fine irony. Love the crop, love the angles, love the colour, love the surrealism. That’s a lot of love. Great eye Matthew. —-—-—-- More work from Matthew. / Go show your appreciation. My memory is not what it once was and he was a huge talent. Look at Josie dancing there, her hair not pestered by trifles like ‘gravity’, trailing her stuffed companion and a balloon that thinks it’s a flower. Or vice versa. This has a timeless quality that makes you think of summer and your childhood, when you didn’t have to worry about mortgages. A wise man once said to me “That’ll be 3.98, do you need a bag?” which got me to thinking, what if I can double the love of this Picture/T-Shirt of the Week concept? How about when you lovely bubblers, on your day to day travels around the site, notice any new people that make your eyes open slightly wider in awe, you come back here, to a ‘special place’ I will make. Then leave a link, and a comment as to why you like an image or tee of theirs. Then I’ll pick the best new work, and pimp you both up in my weekly post. Might even send you both a special medal or something. What do you think? Go on, I can take it…

Right, so after the paramount success of this post asking your opinions, I’m testing this new idea right here and now and here, now. Every Friday you can come here and shout about all the awesome new people you find. You get the whole day to stake your claims, which, due to interesting timezones, is about 50 something hours long. Pick your favourite new image, tee, or written work, (just one I say, one, otherwise I’ll get all flustered and overcome) and tell me who it’s by and why you think it’s marvellous. Then I’ll peruse all your suggestions and pick one tee, one image and one written work from three different undiscovered talents, to talk about over the course of the following week. The finder and the findee will both then get a free shipping voucher and of course, incredible publicity. Plus, the warm satisfaction that accompanies winning things. And maybe even some Limited Edition Certificates. Let’s see how this goes then. I AM ALRIGHT. I have had to go to the Moon for reasons that will soon be apparent. Do not fear, I will be back soon, nothing is changing, all the Rooftop stuff, Things of the Week etc, everything is momentarily in stasis while I fly on my rocket. It’s as if this week has disappeared into a black hole. It no longer exists.** I will be back, PANIC NOT. Regards, Travelling Baxter **please don’t get technical on me here, I clearly don’t know what a black hole really is, or does, or why it does it. Actually I don’t care either I’m afraid.

Yesterday a mysterious parcel appeared in the office addressed to me. Actually the parcel wasn’t mysterious at all. I have no idea why I said that, it was a perfectly normal parcel that came at a perfectly normal time and was delivered by a perfectly normal postman. Inside there was a letter, and a pair of boxer shorts. It was anonymous. / I’m not entirely sure I want to know who sent it. / But thank you nonetheless. We took a snap, which has been added to the lovely lovely lovely Jo’s polaroid wall in the office. Incidentally, if you would like to be on the polaroid wall please either visit or send me $10 and I’ll draw a picture of you and stick it up there. And yes, Vincent Cassel works in accounts. July 30 Champion ”!http://images-1.redbubble….
July 30 Champion Look what’s happening here, pesky chickens, guarding some high quality cards, of pesky chickens. What is he thinking? ‘Touch these hand crafted bits of art wonder and I’ll peck you until you say ‘Ow stop pecking me’ I expect. But I wouldn’t like to assume I knew what chickens thought, if indeed they actually think. Nice work Matt Mawson, a voucher will soon be landing into your inbox. I’ll be posting here every Friday, so keep an eye on me. August 7th Champion Um, there’s, it’s, how can I, well, look, you see, errr, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD THEY’VE BUILT A ROBOT. I can’t add any words to this, it’s too good already. Excellent effort, clear win. I salute you RubyShoes, a voucher will soon be landing into your inbox. I’ll be posting here every Friday, so keep an eye on me. Regards, Mr Baxter – Superintendent of Spotting Good Pictorial Efforts —-—-—-- Follow my every exciting move on Twitter. / And add me to your watchlist. Honorable mention, cough cough, is LuckyVegetable, who can’t win because she works here, but she’s in my shirt, and I am chuffed, and I can mention it because my father was golf caddy for Abraham Lincoln’s cutlery polishing dog, so shush. /
August 14th Champion ”!http://images-1.redbub…
August 14th Champion Any good quality Public Service Announcement is always going to get a look in here. LeighAth has done a fine job of showing exactly how to get dressed with Jumpy’s ‘You’re Doing It Wrong’ tee. This is the sort of information one needs to bookmark for future reference, I have, and I suggest you do the same. You like to do things right LeighAth, and I heartily concur, well done, a voucher will soon be landing into your inbox. I’ll be posting here every Friday, so keep an eye on me. Regards, Mr Baxter – Superintendent of Spotting Good Pictorial Efforts —-—-—-- Follow my every exciting move on Twitter. / And add me to your watchlist. As an aside, Buyers’ Booth photos are getting stronger all the time, you’re making it very difficult for me, if you keep this up I’ll have to try and nab something extra from petty cash when no one is looking.
September 4th Champion ”!http://images-1.redb…
September 4th Champion As far as I can tell this is 12 greeting cards placed into 3 specially designed frames, and it looks absolutely marvellous. It is possible that it’s two dozen matted prints strung together but then Barbara’s kitchen would have to be massive. Perhaps it is. In which case I’d like to see the giant toaster. Most imaginative and very striking, I shall only buy cards in 12s from now on. Barbara, a US$30 voucher will be in your inbox before you can say Baxter’s a God. Make sure you post your photos to the Buyers’ Booth, firstly because I might give you a fancy financial prize, but also because it’s fun, yeah. October 2nd Champion ”!http://images-0.redbub…
October 2nd Champion This is Zombieteeth, who has made an excellent Zombieteeth shirt. And then photographed it and written Zombieteeth on it. I am a personal fan as I actually have zombie teeth, which is why I never smile. Impressive presentation Zombieteeth, here’s US$30 which you can use to buy a shirt to give to your dentist. Make sure you post your photos to the Buyers’ Booth, firstly because I might give you a fancy financial prize, but also because. October 23rd Champion ”!http://images-0.redbu…
October 23rd Champion So Donald took some photos, over layed them with words, put them onto a calendar, bought it, photographed it, sliced it up, and made something that you could reasonably consider so sharp that it’s worth buying, perhaps, as a card. Then you could cut that up, maybe turn it into a tee design, buy that, photograph yourself in it, upload that, buy it as a canvas. Oh my, I think my brain just popped with the immense infinite fractal nature of it all. It’s got all over the keyboard, now the ’ ’ key doesn’t work. Mighty presentation Donald Cameron, a US$30 voucher is in your inbox. Take it to the next level. Make sure you post your photos to the Buyers’ Booth, firstly because I might give you a fancy financial prize, but also because we want to see those fingers. Regards, Mr Baxter – Superintendent of Spotting Good Pictorial Efforts —-—-—-- Follow my every exciting move on Twitter. / And add me to your watchlist.
November 13th Champion ”!http://images-2.redb…
November 13th Champion This wins for having a more varied range of animals than one usually sees in a Buyers’ Booth shot. The striking image was drawn by Matt Mawson for Diana-Lee after she lost her dog Newman to cancer, a marvellous tribute I reckon. Why there’s a goat called Izzy licking the print I can’t quite comment, perhaps the ink we use is particularly delicious if one is a goat. If any goats are listening I’d be keen to know, could be a new marketing angle. Excellent image Diana-Lee Saville, a US$30 voucher is on it’s way, in fact, it’s already there. Make sure you post your photos to the Buyers’ Booth, because I might give you a fancy financial prize. Part 1: The T-Shirt It’s the end of the year, a time when most magazines and TV shows are compiling rehashed versions of last year’s ‘Best of…’ lists because they are tired and lazy and want to knock off early and drink eggnog or white spirit or something. It’s easy editorial. I’m taking that one step further, I want you to compile it. Actually I just want to hear your favourite t-shirts of the last year. The ones that you wished you’d designed, or the ones that made you laugh so hard your breakfast came back out, or the ones that showed such skill with a pencil you ran out of descriptive adjectives in praise. Or perhaps just one of your own, that made you feel like you’d achieved some sort of personal talent goal. Here’s my favourite, it’s a commissioned design by dagrove of my wife. It’s so accurate I feel I can reach out and touch her. / Super illustration. Now, as they say in the playground after school, show me yours….. Part 2: The Comment (Here you will find context) Commenting is the most immediate aspect to RedBubble, it’s often your first contact with an artist, buyer or future collaborator. A positive comment can shape your day, alter how you feel about an artwork, challenge your thinking or just make you laugh. And this works both ways, your words have the power to significantly improve someone’s mood. Never underestimate the importance of a good hearty comment. So my favourite of 2009, or possibly the most shocking, was from Colleen on this here Buyers’ Booth. For context, I had stated: ”....or possibly I’m now going to have my red underwear stripped from me in a libel case…..” To which I received this: I finished early that day. Throw me the best comment you’ve received, you can just copy and paste the text below, and then link me, or get all clever with a screenshot. I’ll leave that up to you. Part 3: The Photograph We’re on a roll here, there’s a great list of your favourite tees and an unprecendented response to the power of the comment. Let’s not waste one second, and move on to your favourite photograph of the year, by a friend, your aunt, yourself or someone with a peculiar avatar and confusing name that you’ve never met. Or even believe exists. This is my favourite of 2009, I can’t work out if rhorsfield was in a plane himself, on a tower or what, but I like to think he had the Red Arrows in a box next to him like a firework, and just lit the fuse… Right, stop what you’re doing and show me your favourite photo, unless what you are doing is looking for your favourite photo. Part 4: The Group It’s the end of the year, we’re too tired for real editorial, so we’re taking notes from all other media and working on Best Of’s instead. We’ve covered Tees, Comments, and Photos. Next up, Groups. Aren’t they great? Lots of friends in one place, talking about something specifically of interest to you. Like Alpacas. I love alpacas. So I joined this most excellent group, All About Alpacas. I don’t get to take part much because you keep selling stuff so I have to keep writing emails. In fact I have not met many alpacas because the wife is allergic to their teeth, but I am looking forward to them having a group alpaca tee challenge. I’ll be right in there. So what’s your favourite group eh? Where do you feel right at home with a bunch of bubblers with similar tastes? Part 5: The Illustration I can’t draw. Or paint. To be quite honest walking is a bit of a mission, and getting dressed is something I need to allow at least half a day for. So when I see people in clothes, or incredible illustrations, I feel weak at the knees. The skill that some have on RedBubble for getting paint from a tube onto a canvas using only some camel hair on the end of a stick makes me want to shake them firmly by the hand and tell them just how much they are improving the colour of the world. But I am normally still naked, and often rendered speechless. I mean look at this stuff…. / / / So instead I’d like you to beat me down with all your favourite paintings, drawings, illustrations and whatnot from the last year. Analogue or digital. Go on, beat. Check out everyone’s favourite Tees, Comments, Photos, and Groups.
