  • Featured in RB group “UK Visions” Sept 09 Art from the world of lawns and offices. Artists have always used the materials of their time.. they forged iron and steel. Today many people live and work surrounded by office machinery and it seems right to bring these into the artistic process… as some are already doing. Photocopier poem I like to take a drawing and play about with it.. in this case I put a simple pencil sketch it through a low cost copier ! I like the grainy feel the copier gives this. The original is a pencil drawing and quite delicate this feels quite different. For me this feels a bit like a Warhol… because the FAX process roughens and de-personalises the image. I would put the Mona Lisa through a copier just to see what comes out at the other end. I like the idea that I could FAX this to anyone anywhere and they would receive an original FAXED version. So if you talk to me nicely I might be persuaded to FAX you a copy of this work ! The original FAXED work was on that thin fax paper that darkens with age.. and so it will not last very long.. so in effect this image only now exists on my hard drive and on sites like this. So anyone ordering the online version is getting the nearest thing anyone can get to an original. Ok.. I’ll keep taking the pills. ;)

  • Ever since the painted bunting returned to southern Louisiana for the 2009 summer breeding season, I’ve been on the lookout for him. He sings heartily from the nearby forested property but seldom does he show himself. I saw him fleetingly a few times, but his extreme shyness keeps him well out of reach. Today, I sat in my blind and prayed he’d come. The singing started, with the glorious sound getting closer and closer until he landed as close as I’ve seen him this year. Snap. Snap. Snap. And then he was gone! This was as good as I could get; hopefully, there will be more opportunities before Mr. Elusive heads to Mexico for the winter months! Isn’t he just dandy! Reminds me of a box of crayons! I’m grateful to God for answering my prayer for a better view of this gorgeous little bird.

  • (from Wikipedia) The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is a bear native to central-western and southwestern China. The Giant Panda lives in a few mountain ranges in central China, in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. It once lived in lowland areas, but farming, forest clearing, and other development now restrict the Giant Panda to the mountains. Though belonging to the order Carnivora, the Giant Panda has a diet which is 99% bamboo. The Giant Panda may eat other foods such as honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, and bananas when available. The Giant Panda is a conservation reliant endangered species. According to the latest report, China has 239 Giant Pandas in captivity and another 27 living outside the country. It also estimated that around 1,590 pandas are currently living in the wild. However, a 2006 study, via DNA analysis, estimated that there might be as many as 2,000 to 3,000 Giant Pandas in the wild. Though reports show that the numbers of wild pandas are on the rise, the International Union for Conservation of Nature believes there is not enough certainty to remove the Giant Panda from the endangered animal list.
