Mrs. Lavinski had some rather Libertarian views on the subject of property tax (especially for a card-carrying Wobblie) but that contradiction doesn’t make her attempts to avoid them any less entertaining. A Hungarian immigrant of amazing ingenuity, Zora put her hard work in the factories of Chicago to good use when it came to crafting a solution to avoiding the “damn Revenuers” who drove her batty. Her steam-powered moving tenement more than returned the favor – it was rumored that no fewer than 10 tax assessors found it necessary to take “medical leaves of absence” after being driven mad by their attempts to track down Zora’s property and assess it. (You can read the rest of Zora Lavinski’s story here: http://flickr.com/photos/winonacookie/2684431674/) This original artwork and story are copyright Ramona Szczerba 2008. Practicing my Photoshop (CS3) skills. I wasn’t planning to illustrate the title phrase, but when I finished the image, I knew I couldn’t call it anything else! Three original photos: the house, the tree and sky, and cracked paint. The hourglass was scanned from “Harter’s Picture Archive for Collage and Illustration,” a great book of more than 300 19th century woodcuts. Numerous layers and blending modes.
Nice fast moving clouds and long exposure gave me this nice streaky effect in the clouds.

My gorgeous cat Bella sunning herself on the front step. It was quite obvious by her lack of interest that she did not want to move in a hurry.

Bikaner is a city with so many old havelis(old merchant houses) its just not funny, it took me a while to find them…all these buildings are ownded buy wealthy businesspeople but unoccupied, what a shame, whould be great for a restaurant or hotel i thought…Rajahstan, India
Good old Bikaner <rajahstan>
Two for the price of one. The main house (left) has three bedrooms, two are carpeted and one has a beautiful open fire place. Tidy kitchen and snug living room with wood heating. 2 toilets and a Laundry which opens to a very spacious backyard. A driveway divides the two houses and ends in a double garage. The second cottage would be perfect as a studio and has two bedrooms and living area with an open fireplace. All pressed tin walls and ceilings in a neat and well presented cottage/studio. Both houses are on the one title but have separate utilities, so you could rent one out and live in the other :) VBS I’m ready to move people … I’m going home!!!
good old Bikaner, rajahstan, India

The original piece has been executed in OIL PASTEL on Cartridge paper – I sketched this image many years ago in my sketchbook. It was taken from an image I found in a magazine. I just liked the look of the cardboard boxes and the denim. / I executed this piece when I was about 22 years of age. / / Example of framed print: /
