In the Moment /// Overall Visual Art Winner / I found myself in Geneva for a week for work last year. The only other time I had been to Switzerland was Zurich for 2 nights in the middle of winter, so I was kind of surprised by the beautiful (and hot!) summer weather I experienced on this visit. / The Lake at Geneva is where everyone goes to cool off and I was mesmerised watching all these crazy dudes doing amazing things off a high-dive on the edge of the lake. I took a few shots and managed to capture this moment among them. / I entered this work into the 2007 Linden Gallery Post Card Show in St.Kilda, and was absolutely stoked to have been awarded one of the six entries to be reproduced as postcards and sold through the gallery.

This image came about in an awesome way for me. Two weeks earlier, the model, Margrit, was telling me a bit about her life. She’s lived and travelled in many countries and taken lots of opportunities. She has also achieved great success with her photography. Several weeks later, I had an unusual chance to photograph her in an old train – the perfect location to reflect her life’s journey. / In Australia, Margrit has achieved her LAPS and AAPS, and is the only West Australian women to received international photographic honours AFIAP. She’s a perfectionist and it shines through in her work. Visit Margrit’s website

This intimate, bright yet dark, static yet flowing, autumn themed image was made in Baxter State Park, Maine, USA in October 2006. I like the contrast of the flowing water beneath the still branches, the pop of color from the remaining birch leaves, and the juxtaposition of the branch atop the stream in tone and color! /

My daughter allowed me six photographs before she became embarrassed and stopped the shoot. I attached camera to my bike helmet and pre-set the camera to fire on delay release. A bit hit and miss but managed this lovely picture. No wonder she was embarrassed!

This was taken after many attempts at trying to capture the dynamics of water. / You have no idea how wet I got during the shooting of this series.

Oh dear….usually when I finish an image I know just what to call it. This one didn’t give me a clue….so here it is with no name! But then Whirligig made her comments, and now it has a name. / Thanks a heap Whirligig :-)

Swimmers in an outdoor suburban pool on a hot, high summer cirrus cloud filtered afternoon. Land animals in a unnatural but safe environment. From a vertical perspective, a curious thing of beauty, the lovely effect water has on sunlight, melds the diverse bodies with the liquid, further heightened by the various movements, positions, and body shapes of the people, all stripped back to life’s essentials. A metaphor for all life, the organism either at rest or struggling with its environment, is always enveloped in it, surrounded by particles in motion and waves of energy, immersed in three dimensional space and linear time. Some of the same swimmers are seen at different times, in another space. / And time, either a few seconds, or a few millenia, from a distance does not seem that different, a whole life can seem no longer or more precious than one hot sunny afternoon playing in the pool. In the end, it’s all just froth and bubbles in “water”.

Full view please :) It was so flattering to be contacted by Sally Omar who was inspired to write a poem to accompany this image. Check out Smothered / SMOTHERED / You smothered me / Locked me in your vault / I want to get out / This is not my fault / You don’t let me feel / Life any more / You’ve locked me in / And closed the door / I need some air / Let me free / I just want to be / Myself..just me / I am starting to wither / And waste away / I can’t stand this / Not another day / I feel my breath fading / The air is stagnant / I am losing my being / Turning into a fragment / You have now / Become too obsessed / I can’t stand / Being possessed / Can’t you see / I hunger for for a breath of air / You won’t allow me / To go anywhere / Even when you are gone / I feel your eyes all the time / I feel your hands / Pressed to mine / I need you now / To let me out of your grasp / My head is spinning / Open the clasp / You’re not willing / To let me free / I will die / Because I can’t be me / SMOTHERED ..::Stock Photo Credit::.. / Model / Columns / Sky / Linseed field If you like this, please check out: / / /
