  • The centrepiece of the New Zealand volcanic stage, often called The North Island Volcanic Plateau , are its main stars Mt Ruapehu on the right and the conical Mt Ngauruhoe. On this panorama they enjoy the late afternoon sunlight and a warm southern breeze that brought smells of the native forests to an amazed photographer.

  • On the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand is the Fox Glacier. Lake Matheson is a glacial lake where on a still day there are mirror perfect relfections of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman as well as the glacier. Mount Cook (the highest in New Zealand is furthest right and Mount Tasman closer to the left).

  • Not far from Queenstown in New Zealand’s south island is the town of Wanaka. This morning was still and the reflections as the cloud slowly rose were wondeful.

  • Another cold early morning, up before sunrise to shoot for a few hours. The low cloud along the mountain range was amazing, also captured several great panoramas.

  • Aoraki / Mt Cook at the head of the Tasman valley in the South Island of New Zealand. The highest peak of the Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This was taken next to a tiny tourist info booth on the main road between Christchurch and Queenstown. Definately worth a stop, but apparently there’s only 10 cloud free days per year! Taken on a Nikon D50, October 2008
