  • This was taken just as the sun had come up. It had been a wet and stormy night, and I was out trying to photograph lightning but was unsuccessful, so I found a nice spot that I had come across the day before and thought would make a nice spot for a sunrise shoot. When I arrived at the spot, it was still raining and overcast and I was expecting sunrise to be ruined by the cloud cover, but I decided to wait around for a while before heading back to camp. Shortly after sunrise, the clouds started to break up and I saw a gap in the clouds starting to open up, and then I started to see some colour breaking though the clouds, so I got my camera and tripod out the back of the car and set up and waited. Suddenly some sunlight came out from the clouds and the landscape in front of me lit up and became bathed in golden light. You can see some rain coming down in the top right hand corner of the photo behind the mountain range which was another bonus! The light didn’t last very long though, maybe 5-10 mins, then it became overcast again and started to rain again, so I packed up and headed back to camp. It didn’t clear up again till around midday on that day, but it was a spectacular sunrise and one of my favourite photos, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed shooting it. EOS 20D. • First light on Mt. Rainier as the wildflowers dot an alpine meadow in the foreground.

  • Colorado is certainly known for it’s parks, and this one I happened upon out of the blue one day….it really is a majestic site, with these odd rock formations just jetting straight up from the earth, as if reaching for the sky. I was also lucky enough to capture the distant clouds as they were building for afternoon thunderstorms, later that day….spose you can say I like the sense of drama that they add to the image overall. / HDR processed, thoughts most welcomed! —-—-—-—-— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • My heart and soul are literally in the West…. and so hopefully… with a little luck… I will find myself living back out there by summer’s end as I sure find myself completely at home and at peace there…. I was driving along in Wyoming this past summer and this lake, the stormy sky and wonderful reflections sure captured my attention… It was so calm and so quiet and I had the whole place to myself… heavenly comes to mind… this is Sodergreen Lake found on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming….

  • This is version 2 of Cactus Moon. This is an original landscape image I took which was daytime in full sun. As you can see I changed to night time with a nice big moon and stars, added start and Milky Way, and made it B&W. I used orton on the moon. The starry sky was created by adding a black layer with noise and adjusting. Which one do you like best? Original Hope you like! Add me to your watch list now / My Bubblesite

  • The clouds part and sunbeams illuminate the scene. Collighillie is an abandoned village on the wild and desolate Applecross Peninsula, reached by a walk of about two miles, on a fairly decent path, from Ard Dubh. A little bit of sad history for you, sent to me by a Flickr contact. ” The villager’s old schoolmaster died and no one from the village was able to teach. The village is so isolated as well. So the government brought in a school teacher from the outside, but unbeknownst to anyone including himself he had TB. By the time they found out it was too late and the whole village succumbed to it.” Shot on a Canon EOS 20D, hand held, f11, single RAW file processed in Photoshop CS3. Metered off a part of the sky.
