Just back from a week in North Wales. I was hoping to take the camera up some mountains but the weather was so awful that there was very little point. At lower altitudes I managed to get a few good shots – and the rain meant that the waterfalls were spectacular!

The weather in the UK may not be the best for the time of year but it did mean that there was some snow on the Cumbrian Fells. There was just enough to pick out all the gullies and folds in the land without making everything look white and blank. It also meant that I could climb a couple more mountains and get some shots from the top. / The route up Wandope (near Buttermere) started well but then led up a steep slope alongside the hanging valley of Addacombe Hole. Suddenly those picturesque patches of snow weren’t so pleasant – they filled all the foot-holds, making them dangerously slippery. An hours’ hard labour brought me to the summit and it was suddenly all worthwhile – all around were snow-capped mountains glistening in the sunlight. / Then it was across a snowy plateau and over another summit (Whiteless Pike) which brought the lakes of Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater into perfect view with more mountains beyond them. / Then it was down and home, my camera finger every bit as tired as my feet!
