I took this on the Rhigos mountain, South Wales, from the back of my mam’s car on the way home from a family holiday. Taken with a mobile phone camera (!) (5 megapixels…i think). I cropped the image so that it had a natural frame with centred sunset, then enriched the colours using the warming functions of Picasa. Used as the group Avatar for Wales, Rich in Beauty!

High on a mountain path in the Snowdonia national park, I came across these pylons, they were used for transporting copper down the mountain by cable car. Just in front of me , are two people, to the right of the pylons. I caught up with them at the top of the grassy corridor at the far end of the image. They went one way and I went the other …. it was drizzling by now and visibility was poor, inevitably, I lost my trail, I was soaked to the skin … thankfully, I spotted a downward track and went for it ….... a hike that I will never forget !! / . / Copyright 2008 Richie Dean / Beddgelert, Wales, UK / Photoshop CS3

Only a few miles from my home and this is what I’m exposed to … I’m allowed to walk anywhere here, along the track on the left to the foot of the waterfall, or up on the hills to it’s source … This is why you’ll never find me home on a weekend, I am surounded by this beautiful countryside …. but, I dont like Mondays !! After an exploritory hike up the Rhyd Ddu mountain path one afternoon, I decided to turn back and follow it to the summit of Mount Snowdon the following day. Just got back after 3 days in North Wales…two days of utter pish and one day of decent weather. This is my first offering…the little gateway that marks the start of the ascent to the imposing Tryfan Mountain in the distance. North Wales how I like it….mean and moody with the odd burst of bright sunlight :) Canon 400D + Sigma 10-20mm and Lee Filters
