  • Panorama of Mount Fuji shot from the Lake Yamanashi side. I had waited three days to get clear skies. This was my reward at 5.30am on the fourth and last morning.

  • The centrepiece of the New Zealand volcanic stage, often called The North Island Volcanic Plateau , are its main stars Mt Ruapehu on the right and the conical Mt Ngauruhoe. On this panorama they enjoy the late afternoon sunlight and a warm southern breeze that brought smells of the native forests to an amazed photographer.

  • A storm clears just enough to let Mount Rainier peek out before the sun goes down.

  • A scene I get to enjoy daily… Mt. Shasta here in the extreme Northern California… this was just as the light was fading for the day, and my camera battery died right after I shot this, and I didn’t have my back up with me… dang it! LOL! ;~) I thought it would be fun to play with this one, and make it into a card or postcard….

  • A perspective on El Nevado del Tolima, Colombia, South America with the ridges and tropical growth against the background of this towering volcano.

  • Aerial View over Kilawaea Volcano with the sky filled with smoke and ash from the hot spots down below on the Big Island of Hawaii. You can see the volcanic eruption in the background. / Straight from the camera- Casio Exilim Best Viewed Larger

  • Well, well, well… what a sunset this evening. Just a shame that Mount Fuji was hiding behind a band of cloud which, over the course of the 30mins I was on the roof of our flat, didnt move hardly at all. Anyway, this evening’s sunset was hardly spoiled by it. Far from it in fact. I never tire of standing on our roof watching the view. The winter days when the air is clear here in Tokyo and you get sunsets like this, who could possibly tire of such a scene? The perfect end to a pretty cool day, on which I got to meet one of my heroes; animated film director, Hayao Miyazaki. Nikon D300 / 80-200mm f/2.8 ED IF @ f8 / 250 ASA / ISO / 7-shot bracketed HDR blended with Photomatix. Very little changed from the original impact of the colour as it was in real life. The HDR was made with a minimum of tone-mapping.

  • This is a photo I have been holding onto for a long time waiting to process. I finally decided how I wanted it to look so here it is! This is Lake George, in the Mammoth Lakes Basin, Eastern Sierras, Ca. Fly fisherman often fish off of this shelf. I was just starting a hike that passes the lake and this scene caught my eye. The mountain in the background doesn’t have an official name but I have heard it called Red Mountain before. There was a lot of mining activity there in the 1800’s and early 1900’s.

  • I found this playa on a recent trip up to Sierra Nevada and i knew I would be back. This dry lakebed backs up against a cinder cone and in the far background the Sierras can be seen. It can be found near Fossil Falls in the Mojave Desert. I decided to do a B&W conversion of this photo due to popular request. Hope you enjoy it!

  • On the NSW North Coast, just near a place called Uki, there is what is left of an old volcano and it is called Mt Warning, or Wollumbin by the local Bunjalung people. The peak has a distinctive shape and can be seen from kilometres away and whenever I visit, I always feel recharged and ready for life. On this afternoon we watched as a storm rolled in way off in the distance… Nikon D700 with 24-70mm @ 70mm / ISO 200 / f/11 / 1/160

  • Ho’okipa Beach Sunrise Maui Hawai’i We had a minor earthquake last night. You may read about it in my journal This morning I awoke early. Jacob and I had coffee together outside on our lanai, and as I was gazing out over the rooftops toward Ho’okipa I saw a squall rolling in over the ocean. I told him I would be back soon, kissed him and told him I love him, grabbed my camera and equipment and drove down to Ho’okipa. I was the first one on the delta below. I stayed for about three hours as the sun rose in the sky and the colours and light appeared, listening to the rocking ocean as the / waves were rolling in like thunder. It was so beautiful. This shot was taken at around 10:30 overlooking the beach gazing toward Mauna Kahalawai, I’ao Valley and the West Maui mountains as I was preparing to return home upcountry. The weather today on Maui is absolutely gorgeous. Aloha kakahiaka, good morning Maui. The destructive Tsunami of 01 April 1946 completely altered the natural features of Ho’okipa. The beautiful beach lost much of it’s wide golden sand beach and most of the Hau trees were lost. The high lava rock seawall on the seaward edge was constructed to try and protect any further damage. Ho’okipa is also world renowned for surfing, wind surfing, kite boarding and international windsurfing competitions. There are strong currents here and most of the time it is not suitable for swimming unless you a very experienced. Longshore currents are often very strong and tend to run toward the high point at the west end of the beach, which appears to be near the horizon in this image. • Mt Ngauruhoe, North Island, New Zealand. Sunrise.

  • Taken September 26, 2008 This is the Roman city of Pompeii, Italy, and the innocent looking mountain in the background is Mount Vesuvius. But this isn’t just some pretty scenery. Mount Vesuvius is a stratovolcano that erupted in AD 79; destroying the city and the people; hence this is a shot of the destructor and it’s aftermath. Currently it isn’t erupting, and Pompeii is now a hot tourist attraction. Also available at Zazzle /

  • A lone tree stands in front of, Mount Saint Helens.

  • Lake Otamangakau. / Mt Tongariro, Mt Ngauruhoe, Mt Ruapehu, North Island, New Zealand. Just the perfect day, not a ripple. More Panoramics
