Temperature was -5c degrees when we venture out to try our luck with snowmaking machine in the area called “Friday Flats” – the beginner slope of Thredbo Resort. Snowmaking and Grooming / Thredbo is the benchmark for snowmaking and grooming in Australia. The already mega snowmaking system that covers 25% of the trails has had another $2 million makeover in the summer and is now fully automated. What does this mean to snow riders? In the 2006 season 42% more snow was made than the previous year, this coming winter the mountain crew expects to produce an extra 30% again. More trails will be covered by the automated system. So better quality, greater coverage and more areas covered. Combine this with a state of the art grooming fleet to smooth the trails (including winch cats to smooth the steep), you know you will always have the best possible snow riding conditions. The "corduroy" surface left behind after a touch up from this mountain crew will make your boards sing!

shot this the other day, having the privledge of hanging out with anthony pierce in the smoky mountains. the temps were cold enough to keep the ice around. when i saw these three rocks surrounded by alittle snow and ice, they reminded me of islands (hey if you were an ant, it would be an island)

another shot , shot on the last day of the year of 2007 / there wasnt that much snow in the cove, just enough to dust things and temps were cold enough to keep it there for alittle while, something about this field with the grass just tipped with snow and frost, the fog all around just awed me

Mount Hotham is in the Victorian Alps, about 3.5 hours north of Melbourne and 7 hours south of Sydney. / Australian ski season runs in good years from June until September. In February 2009, this image placed third in the U.S. Parks Wildlife Shots challenge hosted by the AMERICA’s National Parks and WILDLIFE Habitat group. A thousand Yellowstone wonders are calling, ‘Look up and down and round about you! John Muir – 1898 The temperatures were in the single digits on this cold, snowy January morning at West Thumb Geyser Basin, which is one of the smallest geyser basins in Yellowstone. A incredibly scenic area along the shore of Yellowstone Lake, West Thumb only has a small amount of geyser activity. However, the basin more than makes up for it with its diversity. Despite its small size, it has paint/mud pots, hot springs, pools, lake shore geysers, and fumaroles. Fumaroles are small openings that release steam and other gasses. You can see in the foreground the muddy, soupy waters inundating the paint pots. This was a very lucky shot. We had come across one group of these beautiful creatures near Yarrangobilly in Kosciusko National Park just after sunrise only to miss the shot because the camera wasn’t attached to the tripod. I was quite disappointed as you don’t see brumbies everyday and this was the first time I had ever seen them. A bit later on we were driving down a dirt road just past Kiandra in the snowy mountains looking for one of the old huts, when my daughter yelled at me to look at up, and there on the hill beside us were these three. I managed to roll my car down a bit to see more of them and got this one shot out of the car window before they ran off.
