I can still remember my very first camera that my parents had given to me when I was about 8 years old. I took that camera everywhere and snapped shots of anything and everything, however it wasn’t until much later in life that I was really bitten by the photography bug. I was planning a big move to the Canadian Rockies and thought now is the perfect time to buy my new camera gear for shooting wildlife. I bought all the equipment I needed that would put me up close with all the wildlife that the mountains had to offer. So off I went chasing Bears, Bighorn sheep, Moose, Elk and Wolves… pretty much any critter I could capture with my lens. It was a fascinating and thrilling experience. Then fate brought to me a girl and she would change my life forever… Newfoundland is where I now call home, with my beautiful wife and baby son. This province is a photographer’s paradise. The scenes change from day to day and the opportunities for capturing them are endless. With my camera in tow I now begin my journey through Newfoundland, photographing and capturing her raw and rugged beauty to share with the world. I hope you enjoy the photographs presented here. The rugged and treacherous coastlines give way only to the unforgiving North Atlantic Ocean. It is a coastline marked with lighthouses that act as ever watching sentinels to welcome weary travellers home. It is a land of beautiful & quaint coastal towns, villages and cities. Newfoundland is a land visited by frozen giants from the North that create a sense of awe when seen by human eyes as they float down what is known as “Iceberg alley”. It is a land visited by massive whales during the summer that attract multitudes to the shorelines. It is a land rich in history and folklore and it is a land inhabited by a people who will welcome you with open arms. It is a land you need to visit… Newfoundland… In Living Color, captures the raw and rugged beauty of a landscape still yet untouched and marred by man’s corrupt hand. It is a tribute to a true Eden and its people that dwell there. / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / SOME OF MY FAVS / click on the image to link to that image / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

Some of my favorite abstract work comes from unrecognizably fuzzy photography. This was going to be a portrait of a friend’s dog, but the dog was moving and, apparently, so was I, resulting in a collage of interesting color with very little form. So I cropped and enhanced the saturation and contrast, and did a little tweaking, bending, and skewing. For a while I thought it was going to turn out to be trash, like many projects I embark upon, but suddenly it started to snap into place, and I liked it. I hope you do, too. What this work developed into evokes in me a sense of nostalgia for somewhere I have never been, or perhaps have but I don’t remember. None of us knows what might be awaiting us in the after life, or even if there is one. According to Eckhart Tolle, there is no after, no before, there is just Life, and it and we are all eternal. Perhaps that far shore for which we yearn has been within us all along, just waiting to be acknowledged. Again, as Tolle says, the way to salvation is simply to realize that you are already there. / /

“November comes / And November goes, / With the last red berries / And the first white snows. With night coming early, / And dawn coming late, / And ice in the bucket / And frost by the gate. The fires burn / And the kettles sing, / And earth sinks to rest / Until next spring.” / ~Clyde Watson Taken Tuesday Novl 11/08 at sunset over the Lake of Two Mountains in St-Eustache, Quebec CANADA

Moraine Lake, Alberta, Canada
Featured in “Landscape Photography” Moraine Lake, Alberta, Canada I knew going that I wanted a shot dramatically different then the standard “Moraine Lake” photo that everyone has. I took this photo in the early spring of this year, before the lake had reached it’s normal levels. Didn’t realize it at the time but I was very lucky to have gotten this shot as I came back 3 days later and the rock had already been completely submerged. Woke up at 2am and drove 2 and half hours in the dark and then slept at the lake for about 30 mins before going out to take pictures. Spent almost 4 hours walking the shores trying different shots. I was about to go home when i spotted this rock, I knew I had finally found the shot I wanted. Cheers
Glenmore Reservoir, Calgary, Alberta, Canada This was one my very first photo’s I took. There were many things I had not yet picked up. I had the iso on auto, which I think for this photo was about 400 – 800. This led to much of the noise in the sky. I had the aperture set at f22, which at the time I thought was best to bring more of the photo in focus but I later found it can soften the overall image. I also did not own a tripod so I had to balance the camera on some rocks which made composing the scene much harder then normal and led to a small amount of camera shake. In the end though this became the first photo I had taken that I was truly proud of and solidified my passion for photography.
