Early this morning I decided to drive about an hour into the Blue Mountains to go for a bit of bushwalking and to check out the lookouts around the Wentworth Falls area. / However the weather was terrible, with it basically being a whiteout with visibility down to about 20m and constant drizzling rain, so not the best weather for lookouts and photography! / I decided to head over to King’s Tableland and have a look at McMahon’s Lookout which is down the end of a 20km dirt track, however half way down the road I decided to capture the view in front of me which consisted of the road and trees disappearing into the thick mist. / I will have to head back up on a clearer day! / Photo taken with barely any post processing, just exposure, black point and levels.. / Thanks for having a look, as always comments and critiquing are most welcome.. The beautiful, unspoiled, relatively isolated (until I opened my big mouth) Val di Funes, in the northern part of the Italian Dolomites. Each year when we visit the Dolomites (home from home – remember I AM a marmot), we try to get to spend a few hours, with a picnic (make mine an Asti Spumante!) in this peaceful and amazing place. Unfortunately, the vista here faces north – we need to try and get here earlier/later in the day for a clearer shot of those jagged spires.

The twisting road upto Grosse Feldberg near Frankfurt, Germany at night. Long exposure captured the tail lights of Dafs Honda SP-2. MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD / Best viewed large. / / / / “MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD” was featured in the group COUNTRY ROADS/AROUND THE WORLD / / / / “MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD” was featured in the group NATURAL COLOR AND LIGHT / / / This is a recent photo of my favorite country road! It is located in Flatwoods, Kentucky, in Greenup County, which lies in the northeastern part of the bluegrass state. Many of my relatives live in or just outside of Flatwoods, and my Dad built this one. / / The scenery from this road is almost surreal, it is so beautiful. Surrounding this road are country farms, barns and old churches. This road winds around a gorgeous mountain cloaked with a variety of lush trees and evergreens, whose leaves are radiant in the Fall of the year with brilliant shades of yellow, orange, red, brown and green. / / At the top of the mountain is the end of this magnificent road, which leads to a private, gated mansion that overlooks the entire county. It is very quiet and peaceful there, and everything, including time, seems to stand still on this beautiful road. A corolla winding its way down the Lake Mountain Road back towards Marysville in Victoria’s Yarra Ranges. Taken with my Canon 40D… finally! Processed in Adobe Photoshop CS and Lightroom 2. Sales 1 Matted Print Featured in the Transport group on the 15th of April 2009 On Saturday the 7th of February my family lost our home away from home at Marysville, as well as our two Rhodesian Ridgebacks and our Abyssinian cat. The road to Timna Valley Park , South of Israel, 30 km north to Red Sea From WIKI : The Park is noted for its natural sandstone formations, including King Solomon’s Pillars, the “Mushroom”, “Arches” and “the Sleeping Lion”. It includes what are believed to be the oldest Copper mines in the world, dating back to at least 4000 BC and worked almost continuously by (among others) the Egyptians, Romans, Nabateans and Ummayads. / markers to Timna Park Rock carvings, including “the Chariots”, and ancient inscriptions are visible as well as mining shafts, the remains of ancient copper furnaces and a temple dedicated to the Egyptian goddess Hathor.

Saint Mary’s Lake is in Glacier National Park, Montana, USA. I believe I was rather lucky to get such a calm day as I witnessed here, since I was told that for quite some weeks they had been experiencing unusually bad weather for the time of year ! Glacier is an amazing place, with its primeval mountain shapes, and abundant wildlife, lakes and waterfalls, and many good trails. I was hearing the Elk bugling across the lake as I shot. I would recommend this magic place to anyone ! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted on tripod, polarising filter, f22, 1/30 sec, iso 100, auto WB, Raw file, processed in Adobe CS3, selective levels/curves and selective colour adjustments. The Moulton Barn, Mormon Row, Teton National Park, Jackson, Wyoming, USA. I got up early for this one, I had travelled thousands of miles to see it, had only one morning to get my shot in the bag – and what did I find ? / A film crew shooting an advert ! Along with a battalion of other photographers, I was champing at the ‘bit’, since we weren’t allowed to shoot in case we captured the models – male and female – the whole darned thing was so artificial !! So, when there was a lull in shooting, I crept under a bush and hastily ‘snapped’ my shot. Maybe I should pursue a career in the ‘Paparazzi ??!!! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D with polarising filter attached, mounted very hastily on my tripod, Canon efs 18-55mm lens set at 45mm, underexposed by half a stop, f 27, 1/20 sec, auto wb, iso 100, RAW file developed as much as possible in Adobe Camera Raw, then in PS CS3, selective Levels/Curves, saturation of colours achieved with LAB colour, then the tiniest amount of Orton applied, to ‘pop’ the textures of the wood and grass. The Russel Burn tumbles down from the mountains of Applecross, seen as you take the spectacular drive over the Bealach na Ba ( the Pass of the Cattle ) single track road. It is an old drover’s route, and rises to 2,053 feet, from where, on a clear day, you can see outstanding views of the Western Isles in all their glory. Mostly though, it will be so cold and windy that you will will not want to stay too long !! It is a very wild and remote area, so incredibly beautiful. Taken on a Canon EOS 40D, mounted on tripod, / canon 17-85mm IS lens at 17mm. Polariser fitted, ( to slow the shutter for more blur) / f23, three shot hdr (-2EV , +2EV and 0EV …..from a minus 1 stop underexposure reading 0f f23, 1/15 sec. on Aperture priority ) iso 100, Auto wb, RAW files converted in Photomatix and Adobe CS3. / Finished with a little Orton.

Best on Full Size This image was taken at the same time on October 10, 2009, and in relatively the same spot as Almost Home but I was turned in the other direction, looking back the way I’d come. This area is within the Blue Knob State Park in Pavia, Pennsylvania on the extension of Pavia Road (4035). Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200m vr Nikon lens, hand held. Shutter 1/400, aperture f/10.0, exp. 0.00, iso 1,000. Duplicates created in Photoshop to an eval of +3, +1 and -3 and processed in Photomatix Pro for hdr, then returned to Photoshop for the addition of two textures and some tweaking. My thanks to Princess of Shadows at Deviant Art for the textures.
