The excavator, the wall, the cloud and the bright / orange pole caught my eye while riding along the / new Eastlink tollway in Melbourne’s East (which is just / as well, otherwise eastlink in Melbourne’s west wouldn’t / seem right:) This new 39km tollway will have sculpture’s all along its route. May or may not be a Toyota, it was too dark to tell!

M2 Motorway bridge over the Medway at Rochester. A passion for light and sunset….....
I wanted to create an artwork from the most boring and mundane things I could think of.. so why not roads and traffic ? Its often struck me what a strange place the modern world is.. what would our ancestors make of it all ? England is a small expensive and crowded island of about 14m2 and the roads are utter madness. Everybody in the world wants to come to England because they see everybody in the world wants to come to England. I remember crossing to Normandy one year and thinking where have all the cars gone ? And then when we returned I thought “its busy today..must be a traffic jam” if it was.. it was a 300 mile traffic jam. You often hear the term “motorway madness” in the media and it seems appropriate. People get all excited about cars.. and our fellow visual creatives (advertisers) love to sell lifestyle fantasies with cars.. so to counter this. I draw them as odd little metal boxes with a wheel on each corner. How can you have a lifestyle fantasy when you are stuck in a traffic jam in the pouring rain ? Most cars (even the flash expensive ones) are still using internal combustion technology developed over a century ago.. it’s bit like putting propellers on a jumbo. I am just waiting for the time when we are all flying.. now that should be fun. Sometimes people have big cars but only live in small houses.. and other times you see people have big houses but drive old bangers. I have a mate who collects all the cooking oil from our local cafe’s.. and converts it into bio diesel in his garage.. so if you smell chinese food on the motorway he’s probably just driven past. People who drive along the M25 will know the experience of large planes taking off directly over them. I don’t live in that part of the world and one day I was driving to Dover and the traffic stopped on the M25.. I turned to look to my left and a jumbo jet was heading straight towards us. We had a “YIKES” moment. Thankfully it took off and went right over our heads. They have since built large earth mounds to prevent you from looking staright down the runway. but I’m not sure it really helps.. now you don’t see anything until suddenly a large metal object appears about 6 foot above your head . The end.

Whist I now live in Melbourne, I have lived in Kuala Lumpur for a number of years. In this illustration, I have depicted it to be a city of fantastic and interesting architecture (hope you can see the details) and loads of motorways. It’s developing so quickly that for me, it’s an ever changing place… I am also trying out a different illustration style to what I normally use. Hope you like it.
Wild and born free this was such a amazing site for me to watch this wonderful Kestrel go about his business…...... I certainly was lucky this time to get such a capture of my favourite bird of pray the Kestrel at Snettersham Nr Norfolk England UK. Kestrels have been recently declining as a result of habitat degradation due to continuing intensive management of farmland and so it is included on the Amber List. Kestrels are found in a wide variety of habitats, from moor and heath, to farmland and urban areas. The only places they do not favour are forests, vast treeless wetlands and dense mountains. They are a familiar sight, hovering beside a motorway, or other main road. They can often be seen perched on a high tree branch, or on a telephone post or wire, on the look out for prey. They eat small mammals and birds.

When the Birmingham -London section of the M1,one of Britain’s first motorways, opened in 1959 the forward looking, dynamic Midland Red company lost no time in introducucing the country’s first motorway express coach service with specially built vehicles based on their existing C5 design. These handsome machines were fitted with torbo-chargers and capable of 100mph [this is long before the blanket 70mph max.] which they needed to be in view of the tight schedule. The motorway proper in those days didn’t start until just outside Coventry and finished at Watford Gap so drivers had to fight their way at both ends of the journey though normal roads beset by roadworks and other traffic to keep to time. The C5s in their dotage were later converted for bus duties so had their turbo-chargers removed to avoid the temptation of 100mph service buses! This painting in oils on canvas 20”x30” and much enhanced with sharper detail is for sale at £1000. See my web-site for contact details www.transportartist.co.uk
This Fallow Deer will be the first shot in a new wildlife series I will be uploading which I took last weekend in the British Wildlife Centre. The centre is just ten minutes away from the M25 motorway, junction 6 in Newchapel on the A22 Eastbourne Road in Surrey. This pretty lady looked as though she was playing Hide & Seek with us hiding behind a few blades of grass. We weren’t daft though, we could see her. LOL I hope you like the photo and thank you so much for viewing my work, please call back again soon. I bet any males looking are now quite disappointed that there isn’t a babe here for them to look at? LOL This is my second shot from the British Wildlife Centre. The centre is just ten minutes away from the M25 motorway, junction 6 in Newchapel on the A22 Eastbourne Road in Surrey. This beautiful Red Fox kept looking at me then turning away then back to me again as if asking; “Have you got the shot yet? ” And when I had the one I wanted she trotted off. The Red Fox is one of my favourite animals and I know they steal from farmers and are shot if caught and were hunted by dogs and people on horseback with nothing better to do but rip the poor creature to pieces but they are just so beautiful, look at her face, how could you hurt one of God’s wonderful creatures as beautiful as she is? I hope you like the photo and thank you so much for viewing my work, please call back again soon.
