While I was hiking the Great Wall – gasping for air and feeling my tired legs – I started pondering over how the Mongolians could manage this climb and how much determination they must have to get through this monstrous marvel. And how did the Chinese build the wall to start with?? No machinery, no technology, just pure human strength – or was it just sheer determination?

Sometimes we need to be reminded to “keep it simple”, (I know I do). I think we tend to complicate our lives, being so busy and bombarded with being told ‘what we should have’ or ‘what we should be’. Be true to yourself, be kind, be honest, give love.

It can be viewed as a joyous new start for all the old situations and events that happen that we think we will never recover from. It’s been my experience that life will always find a way to bring us to our knees…some of us get more than our fair share for reasons which I’ve never been able to understand. I seem to have been one of “those people” for most of my life. Admittedly, there are experiences which I’ve played a part in creating by making poor choices…other very difficult experiences have been out of my control. I don’t like the word “victim”...let’s just say I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. / Having said that, my knees have multiple blisters and callouses, and I think it’s fairly safe to say, my comfort zone is a place I seldom seem to visit. But when I do, I enjoy it enormously…except after awhile, I realize that it’s a spot where we seldom really grow … / And growth is what life is all about. It’s nice to be at a place in my life where I can honestly be grateful for all those experiences which have taught me what’s important…and what isn’t. And I’m quite sure, the “growing” will continue.
