/ “Time to Start Anew” is part of the series “The Trees”...here we are, still in winter, but as we draw towards the end of the year it is a time to stop and access the old…time to look back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year. ”And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 9:17 God’s Spirit can guide and teach us through his word in such surprising ways. When God sends a message to us through scripture it is never by accident. In Isaiah 55:11, God says that wherever He sends His word it never returns empty, but always achieves the special purpose for which it was sent. Prayerfully consider the verse that inspired this painting and know that the Mighty God of all the heavens has reached out to touch you this moment. “Mysterious Kor” came out of nowhere today…I started out planning to do a winter painting, then as this scene emerged, out of the blue the title came into my head…the strange thing is that I had never heard of or read the poem before in my life…when the name popped into my head I looked it up and found it was about a city where no one lived, and is an allegory about London during the blitz…when I read the first two lines, I saw that they echo the subject of the painting... Watercolour on Arches Hot Pressed Paper…Featured in Forests and Landscape Painting The In Between, Feature Fraternity, and in many other Groups… 1663Views Not in the waste beyond the swamps and sand, / The fever-haunted forest and lagoon, / Mysterious Kor thy walls forsaken stand, / Thy lonely towers beneath the lonely moon, / Not there doth Ayesha linger, rune by rune / Spelling strange scriptures of a people banned. / The world is disenchanted; over soon / Shall Europe send her spies through all the land. Nay, not in Kor, but in whatever spot, / In town or field, or by the insatiate sea, / Men brood on buried loves, and unforgot, / Or break themselves on some divine decree, / Or would o’erleap the limits of their lot, / There, in the tombs and deathless, dwelleth SHE! / “Under The Orange Sun” is the 8th stage of The Journey. The Travellers have come to a silent and almost barren land, where the heat of the sun beat mercilessly down…where to shelter was the first order of the day. DURING this time, we had left the bright and transparent forest far behind us. We were mute with astonishment, overcome by a kind of feeling which was next door to apathy. We kept running in spite of ourselves. It was a perfect Right, which resembled one of those horrible sensations we sometimes meet with in our dreams. Instinctively we made our way towards the Central Sea, and I cannot now tell what wild thoughts passed through my mind, nor of what follies I might have been guilty, but for a very serious preoccupation which brought me back to practical life. Though I was aware that we were treading on a soil quite new to us, I, however, every now and then noticed certain aggregations of rock, the shape of which forcibly reminded me of those near the Port. This confirmed, moreover, the indications of the compass and our extraordinary and unlooked-for, as well as involuntary, return to the north of this great Central Sea. It was so like our starting point, that I could scarcely doubt the reality of our position..Journey to the Centre of the Earth… / / There it lay, before me, as they had / said it would: a distance / I’d wish to cross, / then try to, then leave / off wishing.
