  • Self portrait at speed. Taken on a home made cardboard wide angle pinhole camera mounted over the front wheel. Shot on 5×4 format Fuji Velvia 50 iso sheet film – 26 second exposure. This was used as the cover image of Velovision (an English cycling magazine) issue 8 about four years ago.

  • Sprint! is one image from a series called The Riders that was exhibited at The Centre for Creative Photography in Adelaide (March 2008) and twice in 2009 – at the Epson Gallery at Photographic Wholesalers in Hutt Street, Adelaide and in at the Nexus Gallery in Bellingen NSW as part of the Sibling Rivalry show. The series was shot on Kodak color infrared film. The distinctive colours and grain are characteristic of the film. The motion blur was captured in-camera by using camera panning and slow shutter speeds – ranging between 1/15th and 1/2 second. A 28mm wide angle lens further added to the distortion and impression of speed. The camera was a vintage (early ‘80s) Pentax K1000. Digital manipulation was limited to minor contrast correction and dust removal post scanning.

  • Early morning outside McDonalds on Bury New Road. This is a Bus speeding past. Elements of this image were used for Hondas ‘Drive Every Drop’ advertising campaign.

  • This is the “Orient Express” roller coaster at the New Jersey State Fair. I used my Nikon D70 with a Tamron 28-200 lens. Exposure was 1/13@f/5.6 at ISO 800. I used the built-in flash set to slow sync mode. Trying to creatively express the sensation of motion is one of my favorite things to do in photography. I’m really happy with the result here… I think you can almost hear the riders screaming in the background!
