This is one of the main temples in Vang Vien, Laos. The temple buildings are beautifully ornate and the surrounding garden is peaceful. On this day however, a number of the monks were busy conducting repairs on the building and, the younger ones especially, were scouting in and out of the windows and up and down the ladder as part of their work. They held a group of us captivated, cameras in hand, with their cheeky expression and playful teasing. I loved the strong contrast of the orange robe against the pink building – I think the colours capture the playfulness of the atmosphere even more than the monk’s expression in this case.
The most famous sight in Rockport, MA is a wooden fishermans shack on the town wharf known as Motif #1. The trademark of the costal town is said to be one of the most photographed buildings in the country. It was originally constructed in 1884 and destroyed during the blizzard of 1978. It stands rebuilt on the same pier as the original, duplicated in every detail and reinforced to withstand storms. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——- Please have a look at some of my other photos: / People/Portrait / Animals/Pets / Travel/Scenics / Flowers/Insects/Macros / BlackWhite / StillLife / Photoshop Image copyright © 2007, Jamie Lee. / Please note that copying, displaying or redistribution of this image without written permission from the artist is strictly prohibited.

From the Aliens Movie… / “El Riesgo Siempre Vive.” is written on Vasquez’s chest plate armor. In Spanish, this literally means “the risk lives forever”, and figuratively means (it’s a saying) that taking risks is necessary to survive.
Acrylic on Canvas…
This is another owl that I collected from my Taiwan trip. She has floral carvings all over her body. I attempted quite a no. of things with this shot, I think I still like her best in this :D / / You can view and buy my other “Mono Owl” creations at my Zazzle Gallery:

In my travels I have come across many strange places but none more strange than the Sodenay Cathedral. It rises up from the Plains of Desolation East of the Land of Zazz not far from the great inland sea. I was on a quest at the time, a story I have yet to finish sharing, but I will tell you this. It is the Cathedral of the Sodenay Goblins .. fierce and cruel beasts that they be and it is only by luck and the help of my Grandfather’s old friend Yarelis that we escaped their clutches and continued on the quest. If you wish to read what has already been written go to The Ancient Oak ... you will find the scrolls on my desk in the fireplace room … as I was recounting … I drew this image and the others to follow of Sodenay .. they were forever burned into my memory … my hopes by sharing them your curiosity about the Goblin’s Cathedral will be sated … for it is also my hope that none of my friends will choose to venture anywhere near the place … for it is a place where nightmares come from and death is the very air you breath … Featured Art – May 2009 – RedBubble Group: Art in Math further commentary and art remembered continue in these pages: Sodenay Cathedral Chamber / Sodenay Cathedral Anteroom / The Portal of Sodenay / Goblin Tapestry of Sodenay Fractal work done in GnoFractal with extensive PaintShopPro and Gimp post work. There is a room you walk through just before you enter the Great Hall. It is small by comparison yet huge compared to all other I have seen. It is also tiled floor to ceiling with torches to light the room. It’s height was about two stories high. Fractal work done in GnoFractal with extensive PaintShopPro and Gimp postwork. Beyond the Great Hall through hidden door was a small room with this tiling on one wall. The remaining walls were painted the same red as the tile. When I say small I really mean small too. It’s height no higher than a tall human reaching up. More like a closet in size. I hid in this room along with Yarelis to hide from the Goblins. There was nary one torch to light the room but the the Portal glowed blood red in the dark. There was magic indeed in it and we were soon to find out just what kind of magic it was. NOTE: the is the fifth and last of a series. Please start your viewing with Sodenay Wall Motifs to enjoy the whole experience of Sodenay (big smile) ... I should have posted these in reverse order … forgot how our overview page shows newest first … Here is my remembrance of one of many tapestries that line the smaller halls within Sodenay. All were of a different pattern but all of the same colors. Perhaps there is some significance in this but I had not the time nor the inclination to ponder their meaning during my stay there. The Goblins knew we were inside and it was only Yarelis’ magic that kept us hidden. I fear for what may have happened to us if we had been found. I love the Willow Pattern….. I have fond memories of finding hundreds of broken willow pattern shards buried in the dirt near my home as a young child. It was the site of an old homestead that burnt to the ground many years before my time. / I’d spend hours digging in the dirt thinking I’d found some exotic treasure…..... “Two birds flying high, / A Chinese vessel, sailing by. / A bridge with three men, sometimes four, / A willow tree, hanging o’er. / A Chinese temple, there it stands, / Built upon the river sands. / An apple tree, with apples on, / A crooked fence to end my song.” / by Mary L. Stollard The Willow Pattern was designed by Thomas Minton around 1790, & has remained popular ever since. [canon 1000D, bamboo from sxc.hu] Featured – Nostalgic Art & Photography – June 2009 /
A mystical and magical creature said to build its nest in the mountains and line it with gold and attributed as an attribute of understanding the relationship between psychic energy and cosmic force, as well as being the guardian to the pathway to spiritual enlightenment. This solar hybrid creature, combines the head, claws and wings of an eagle with the body of a lion, symbolizing rulership of air and land and together making a double emblem of the Sun’s power and usually shown next to a ‘tree of life’ or similar symbol as the guardian of the sun and seasons. / The Griffin has been a forceful motif since the second millineum BCE in western Asia, later in the Middle East, Greece and eventually Europe. It was a Hebrew symbol of Persia, had demonic significance in Assyria, but seems in Crete to have played a protective role in palace decoration. In Greece, where the griffin was sacred to Apollo, to Athene as wisdom and to Nemesis as retribution, legend said they guarded the gold of India and of the Scythians. In early Christianity iconography the griffin was used to symbolize the forces of persecution, vengeance or hindrance. But from the 14th century it emerges as an emblem of the dual nature of Christ – human and divine – and of courageous vigilance, which was its usual meaning in heraldry.
Influence of nature. Graceful curves. The wispy lines resambles branches and leaf motif on this piece. Enjoy it!
