  • Yes, they are my feet and I’m relaxing on the beach watching the kids play in the water. I gave this image some texture and it reminds me of a very lazy, Aussie summer’s day at the beach.

  • Linaji and TeriLee queried me this morning on how I felt in the moment of joining “Feminine Intent”, and although I wrote these words 16 years ago, I never felt them as strong as I do at this moment in time… Our power of generation is female, femine, matriarchal… Our roots come from survival and independence; Our branches break and regrow with reality and strength; Our leaves are resillient, as tears enlighten a new beginning; The newest seed of creative life within ourselves will cultivate / these elements into becoming a deeper root to our Earth Mother / with our female chain unbroken… tkrosevear 1992/2008 Sisters are Doin’ it

  • Steer II (Missy Higgins) / / Pencil drawing, digital colouring The Golden Elephant – story and art by Karin Taylor / A long long time ago in a tropical land where the papaya grow wild and free, there lived a golden elephant who’s beauty was unsurpassed. All the creatures were mesmerised by what appeared to be the sun entering the water when she swam and when she walked on the land everyone stepped aside, as elephants were revered. Legend has it, the golden elephant was once a beautiful warrior princess. Once, in midst of of a terrible battle with her enemy about to take her life, she made a wish that she could become an elephant, for then no harm would come to her. The beautiful warrior princess was granted her wish, tho could sadly not return to her human form, and so it was that the golden elephant lived forever, bringing warmth and light wherever she went. During the darkest nights when the stars hid and the moon disappeared, the beautiful golden elephant shone like the sun, lighting the way for pilgrims on their journey. Although very happy she got what she wished for, the golden elephant found herself still thinking the grass was sometimes greener on the other side. Indeed she would have liked to be human again. But she accepted her new role and did the best she could with her gift of light. • BEST VIEWED LARGE / \ / My last upload for a little while, here she is the Music Box Dancer from a drawing, digitally coloured. The words in the background are my own handwriting as I wanted the emphasis to be on sending out postive message for little girls and big girls: shine SHINE Shine, be giving, LOVE yourself, love OTHERS, dance your way through LIFE, you are beautiful, be joyous, you are LOVED, sing your SONG, your heart is free, be glad, trust, HOPE, live, LOVE, BELIEVE, shine your light the message is twofold….for little girls, very simply it’s sending a clear message of positive reinforcement, were it to be something they have in their room or receive for a birthday, i just wanted to give them a boost and a reminder to love themselves and live life to the full. To go with that line of thinking I’ve included the beautiful Music Box Dancer video on youtube by The Wiggles with a video of a little girl, a bit like this one, dancing….and The Wiggles, Dorothy the Dinosaur, and Captain Feathersword are all there too for your viewing and listening pleasure. do you remember the music box dancer in your music box…? you would open up the box, and there she was, she would pop up as you lifted the lid…in her little tutu, pirouetting round and round to the sound of the ‘music box dancer’ or some other pretty tune, she kept guard over all your hidden treasures in the jewellery box, I’ve tried to recreate the look and feel of that little icon here with her white tulle tutu skirt beneath, princess-style sleeves and golden hand-beaded bodice and pretty golden string of pearls she is both young and innocent, wide eyed…but also older and wiser, so that I hope she would appeal to girls of every age and in every stage of life the other side of the coin, I want to encourage grown up girls who have struggled and find life hard going at times, as a reminder that they are beautiful, that one can develop and nurture resilience and strength through everyday focus and meditation on positive messages and looking for the good in life…even if it’s only miniscule, it can grow… and to go with that line of thought, i have included a link to Missy Higgins song, which I love so much called Sugar Cane which is about the baby ballerina that lives inside us the year was 1972 and just for fun here’s a pic of me when i was 7 and just tiny tot at ballet (i’d been going since I was 4 years old..our first review I was in “The Fairy Around the Christmas tree and we wore a white singlet with little white scarves all sewn into it to make the skirt and of course a little halo of silver tinsel about the head lol) we looked like baby elephants, so ungraceful, but all the mums and dads and we ourselves thought we were very wonderful! which one am I? ... the littlest one on the far right at the back…that’s me….one of the other girls is my best friend (from childhood) we’ve lost touch now…i won’t give her name, but she was/played Amy the Bear in Bananas in Pyjamas for a few years.. she and her sister were magic dancers and always got the lead roles, i was forever in obscurity, in their shadow….and even here…although the smallest of the lot…there i be, right in the back…where I’m most comfortable :) and one more for the road…can you believe this is me!! lol ..and i must mention that my mum painted the pegboard behind me there, and we’d hang our toys from it to tidy up…using golf tees in the holes as pegs…so innovative and clever she is…full of ‘making do with whatever we had’ kind of ideas… /

  • A collaboration with Christine – this is a real skirt!!! on a hand drawn model, i hope you like…it’s the roaring 20’s flapper vintage version, of the design below, to see the process, etc, read on…this skirt is designed by Chris and will be for sale available as patterns for knitters in early January, this design will be on the front of the patterns. let me know if you are interested in ordering a pattern and i’ll pass on your details to Chris \ / sales of this design – 1 so far, thank you Chris!! / / a special project, this took 15 hours to complete from start to fin. it began as a pencil drawing and a photograph of a skirt and was in 3 parts which i put all together… see below: / Top half of Arwen (pencil drawing) / / Arwen Skirt / / Bottom half of Arwen oh yes! i forgot to mention the background is an old rusty tin (a photo) which i found in an opshop..i loved it to bits and finally found a use for it! it forms the basis for the background and the matt Arwen is standing on too The skirt in this image is a real skirt! / See it here and gasp what a gorgeous beauty, and it was not only made by my friend Christine Jones but it was DESIGNED by her. Chris is currently completing a course in the UK to enhance her knit design skills, it’s very intensive and she always wanted to be able to create her own designs, finally, she’s come up with not just one, but another beautiful Flamenco wrap knitted and designed by Chris with eco friendly yarns, was recently featured on the front page of YARN Magazine Chris has asked me to create girls to ‘wear’ her real designs once she has created them, so that she can put the designs on the front of her patterns and sell to other knitters. This arwen design she’s come up with in rainbow colours has got to be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, I’m so proud of my friend. I have recoloured Arwen and reimagined her in a vintage 1920’s style art deco scene as a little Charleston dancer/flapper …. the skirt seems to easily translate into the fashion of that time… one day Chris hopes to also create an adult version of the skirt with pattern… wouldn’t that be cool. Chris is a wiz with all things textile and fibre, and i recently visited her place for a Sunday garage sale and came home with more than i intended .. a beautiful huge felted bag, gorgeous Cloth, Scissors, Paper mags, tools and equipment for stamping, so inspiring! Thank you Chris! I will keep you posted. Please email/bmail me if you would be interested in a copy of Chris’s patter for the skirt, it’s at this stage for girl’s but if you are interested in it as a big girl pattern for ladies, please let me know and I’ll pass on your interest to Chris to spur her on into making the adult one and creating a pattern for it also. Chris can probably take orders if you’d like me to pass on your details, she hopes the pattern to go on sale early January, she just has other test knitters all over the world working on the pattern to ensure it all turns out beautifully. / ...... / and something a bit different for you 500 coloured pencils enjoy the creative journey….. / ..... / Christine’s handmade one off textile garments available for sale on etsy / http://www.etsy.com/shop/yarnaboutyarn / yarnaboutyarn Christine’s website link / http://www.yarnaboutyarn.com/ / Christine’s blog / http://www.yarnaboutyarn.blogspot.com/ / Christine’s cards and prints available for sale on redbubble / http://www.redbubble.com/people/christinejones /

  • \ / / Fancy Dress – a mixed media drawing and collage on calico fabric. Her face and arms are the only things drawn, using coloured pencils, pastels, watercolour crayons, marker pens. Her wings are fashioned from tiny white leaf veins The dress and her hair are crafted from felt, the trims are bits and pieces, such as lace, feathers, tiny white pebbles for the necklace and wooden shapes for her shoes peeping out. She has then been enhanced digitally, and this changed the creamy calico to a pink/salmon satin look which i was quite taken with. Christine my friend has inspired me yet again, with all the wonderful magazines she’s just given me, and my old love for cloth dolls has resurfaced…so much so that i tried to recreate a fashionable vintage cloth doll (without all the sewing) and so, i have simply layed one piece over another and carefully transferred it to where i could photograph it and then work on the rest in photoshop. I wasn’t going to load anything new prior to Christmas as thought i’d be fully immersed in family outings and such, but it’s turned out they’ve given me some lovely time to myself and spoiled me rotten….bringing me lunch in the studio and doing all my chores so i can draw! What a delightful little family I have :)
