  • Taken as sunset approached on the plains by the Swampy Plains river south of Thredbo, at the Geehi rest area campsite. Whilst on a fishing trip I decide to take the afternoon to get some shots, knowing that the local kangaroo population came down each evening to feed in the grass. I was stalking this roo by chance when I noticed she was carrying a joey. At first it was just an obvious bulge, then some feet and finally a head poked out. I spent about 20 minutes quietly stalking her trying to get as close as I could, shooting with a 70-200mm lens. She was a little bit more cautious than the others, so it was harder to get close, but being so near to such a unique sight in the wild was exciting to say the least. I managed to not scare her and finally got this shot, the one I really wanted the minute I say she had the joey, of both of them looking in my direction. Eventually I pushed my luck too far and she bounded off to continue eating 50 metres or so further away, but I came away happy with another memory of the Australian bush! Nikon D300 / Nikor 70-200 2.8 / ISO 200 / f2.8 / 1/2500 / Aperture Priority / Spot focus / Spot metering Shot in RAW, curves and a touch of brightness and contrast applied in Photoshop.

  • This image was featured in the group, Route 66 – The Mother Road in July, August, & September 2008. ROUTE 66 IMAGE COLLECTION An old gas station located on Route 66 in Williams, Arizona is a reminder of a bygone era. First commissioned in 1926, Route 66 was the first highway to link Chicago with Los Angeles. By the 1930’s is was THE way west. John Steinbeck penned it “the mother road” in his work, Grapes of Wrath. Even though many parts of the original road are now gone, there are still remants of Route 66 left to enjoy for those of us who still appreciate the spirit of a good road trip! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ This image is not for sale. • ROUTE 66 IMAGE COLLECTION This 1928 gas station is often called a “doll house” because of its cottage style design. Located in McLean, Texas this is the first Phillips Petroleum Company retail outlet built outside Oklahoma. Renovated in 1992, it is now owned and and maintained by the Texas Route 66 Association. The town of McClean is working to maintain the early look of the Route 66 era and it is a not-to-missed stop if you are in the area. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ This image is not for sale. Please respect copyright and do not save or upload any images or poems to Photobucket, Flickr, Myspace, Facebook etc. These creative materials are NOT public domain. A combination of 2 public domain photos, 2 brushes, and a rather unpleasant chapter of my life that I only recently realized I had never before expressed in my art. The idea came from the Pensieve concept from the Harry Potter series, in which a person can return and view their own memories from an external point of view. (The figure in the foreground on the left actually looks like me, which I found a bit creepy, but fitting nonetheless.)

  • This image was featured in the Neon Heaven group on March 18, 2009. ROUTE 66 IMAGE COLLECTION On a stretch of Route 66 in Shamrock, Texas the once famous Tower Conoco Station and U-Drop Inn & Cafe now houses the local chamber of commerce. Built in 1936, the building represents the art-deco style that was popular in the 1920s and 1930s. The Neon lines are lit day and night. During its heyday, the local newspaper reported that the cafe at the U-Drop Inn was “the swankiest of swank eating places” and “the most up-to-date edifice of its kind on U.S. Highway 66 between Oklahoma City and Amarillo”. “Delicious Food Courteously Served” quickly became its motto. The building with its twin towers was a landmark to the many highway travelers on Route 66. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. • Oil on canvas. ± 8” x 12”. December 2008. Another painting showing the view of Cape Town and Table Mountain (Western Province, South Africa) as seen from Bloubergstrand. I love trying to capture the forces of nature in paint on canvas but believe that only a camera can truly capture the beauty of this amazing and magical place. / Table Mountain has many moods and this view changes all the time, pure magic.. Worked on and off on this for the past few months and again did not use any reference for this. I used to love sitting on the beach and sketching the mountain a few years ago. These days I spend many hours in traffic but at least enjoy this amazing view while I am crawling to work.
