PS> I want to thank all of my freinds here at redbubble, and to all the people who kindly comment on my work, that I vewry much appreciate the support. I have decided not to reply to individual comments as it is too time consuming, and in fact I would prefer to browse your own folios and comment on your work instead! :) THANK YOU ALL!!!! xxx

  • This is a detail from the altar of Mosta dome church. The altar has been ‘dressed up’ for the feast of the ascension of St.Mary, as has been the whole of the church. The detail is somewhat lost in such a small image….so you know what to do :) PS> I want to thank all of my freinds here at redbubble, and to all the people who kindly comment on my work, that I vewry much appreciate the support. • One of the bell towers of Mosta church in Malta.

  • Acrylic painting on canvas, measuring 60cm X 66cm, depicting the impressive Mosta Dome, in a prismatic style.

  • These steps lead down to the beautiful Valey of ‘Wied il-Ghasel’ -The Valley of Honey, just on the outskirts of Mosta, a Town situated roughly in the middle of the Island of Malta. They have been hand-hewn into solid rock hundreds of years ago, (probably during Roman times, when the valley was well known for the sweet honey produced by wild honey bees) to provide safe access to the valley as the rocks become dangerously slippery when wet.

  • Acrylic on canvas Prismatic painting, measuring 90cm. X 90cm, depicting the legend of the bride of Mosta. The story goes back to the times of the Knights of St. John, and this noble girl from Mosta was abducted on the eve of her wedding and taken as slave by the turks. It took four years for her to be ransomed and return to Malta. The day was Good Friday. As a background I painted part of the Mosta Church with one of the statues from the procession of Good Friday, an annual event. The face is my interpretation of the spirit of the bride.

  • This picture is taken on the small island of Malta, in the Mediterranean. It is taken from a garden called the Mosta’s Bride. The legend goes that when in the 15th century Malta was besieged by the Turks they kidnapped a young girl from Mosta. She was betrothed to a Maltese nobleman , and her father’s servant who was treated with respect, despite being such, helped in her kidnap. Her husband-to-be went to look for her. When he found her she was very sick and poorly. Apparently he died on his attempt to free her! / / This is some weather information about our island which is a fantastic place to visit with lots of history..dating back to before Stonehenge in UK. It is the sunset on 16 feb 2009 at 1800hrs. Temperature is 6 C, humidity is 62%, Atmospheric Pressure is 1022hPa and Wind NNW 04 Knots.

  • I shot this photo from the roof of my house at the time of a final barage showing the Mosta Dome at Night in the Feast, this was taken on 11 th August 2007 and the feast comes on the 15 th.

  • Mosta Dome Malta

  • This hangs inside the beautiful Mosta Dome. / Built in the 19th century on the site of a previous church, it was designed by the Maltese architect Giorgio Grognet. Its dome is among the largest in the world, with a diameter of 37 meters (122ft). The rotunda dome is the third-largest church dome in Europe and the ninth largest in the world.

  • Mosta boasts the third largest unsupported dome in the World dedicated to the Assumption. The Feast of the Assumption is held on August 15 and it is a public holiday. The church is also known as the Rotunda of St Marija Assunta. On 9 April 1942, the church was nearly destroyed during World War 2. An Axis bomb pierced the dome of the church but failed to explode. The detonator was removed and a replica bomb is now displayed as a memorial. The Rotunda was designed by George Grognet de Vasse, a French citizen but resident in Mosta. Mosta residents, at that time totalling not more than 1500, built this spectacular church by their own hands. It took them 27 years to complete but the result is a tourist attraction of world standard. Grognet chose the type of stone by insisting on having one slab from each quarry operating in the Islands. He then proceeded to test their durability. In the end he chose a quarry in Mosta near to Ta’ Vnezja, at the gate of an old military airfield. The stone of the Rotunda bathes in the sun and spectacularly has taken a yellow/orange/red colour.
