  • I like the soft pastel colors in this photo of the gold-winged skimmer dragonfly.

  • The male blue dasher dragonfly is among my favorites. It isn’t as skittish as some of the other dragonflies and sometimes cooperates beautifully when I chase it around in hopes of taking its photo. Dragonflies are also called mosquito hawks since they put a major dent in the mosquito population, thus contributing a wonderful service to man.

  • Mosquitos
    by Melissa Vowell

She called the other day. / She does that sometimes / Asks about my life / Tells me about hers But I don’t care I feign interest / It …

  • A female blue dasher standing on her head inspired this greeting card. Dragonflies do this to cool off their overheated bodies on steamy summer days.

  • This bright blue Eastern Pondhawk dragonfly is a male; its mate is apple green in color. Both are beautiful and graceful and very helpful to humans as they eat enormous numbers of mosquitoes daily. In fact, they are commonly referred to as mosquito hawks because they’re predators on the prowl for the offensive pests!

  • I took this photo of a dragonfly at Lake Martin in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana. It was resting on a stem of grass seed at the water’s edge. I would appreciate help in identifying this dragonfly. Thank you for viewing.

  • The Great Blue Skimmer Dragonfly is large, approachable, and beautiful. The female blue skimmers are brown in color and extremely friendly. I’ve experienced delightful encounters with them when they’ve landed on my hand and rested their contentedly. I added the mosaic filter to the background of this image in hopes of making the dragonfly stand out more three-dimensionally.

  • Steamboat Lake
    by Kimberly Palmer

Most of you know I went to Colorado recently… I’m still reviewing and editing the pictures. What surprised me in this shot, while editing in PS… I noticed mosquitos. There were SO many at this lake, it was driving us nuts. I can’t recall if we had bug spray before Steamboat Lake, or if we bought it afterwards. Anyway, I have some bird shots at this area, and you can see clearly the mosquitos around this bird (I will upload him later)... The bird was actually snapping and eating the flying blood suckers, it was amazing to witness. Look at larger view, and you’ll notice some blood suckers. =) / Colorado Images Images copyright ©Kimberly Palmer– 2008. / Copying, displaying, manipulating or redistribution of any image from this portfolio without permission from the artist is strictly prohibited

  • A dragonfly in clear focus in the foreground and another indistinct one in the background triggered this saying which I thought might make a nice greeting card about following a dream even if it seems elusive or unreal. I took this photo at Lake Martin in St. Martin Parish in southern Louisiana.

  • One thing I’ve learned about photographing dragonflies is that it’s better to find a seat and stay put until they come to you rather chasing after them, usually to no avail. Once they light nearby, they will usually return to the same spot over and over again and actually exhibit some curious behavior about the human presence. This female Eastern pondhawk dragonfly eluded me for two days as I chased her; today, I found a seat and waited in her territory. Sure enough, she came to me and we had a lovely visit. She let me get very close to her and seemed to be really fascinated with the camera’s flash.

    Mosquito and its shadow

  • This female Common Whitetail Dragonfly finally settled down for a spell and let me photograph her. The male which has much more white on its body is more skittish and harder to track down. Dragonflies are man’s friend in that they eat tons of annoying and harmful mosquitoes; hence their other name—mosquito hawks.

  • Mossies returning to base over cornfields. / The colours never come out right do they.

  • This female Eastern Pondhawk Dragonfly was enamored of the flash on my camera and stayed perfectly still as I clicked frame after frame. It was a sweet encounter with a lovely creature.

  • The male Eastern pondhawk dragonfly has a green head and blue body whereas the female has a green head and green body. They are friendly little creatures that are fascinating to watch and interact with. Also called mosquito hawks, they eat mosquitoes which is a beneficial service to man.

  • Dragonfly Twilight
    by Bonnie Taylor Barry

    US$4.28–US$114.00

I watched the dragonflies in my neighbor’s pond at twilight and noticed how they seem to find a branch to call their own for the night; this male Eastern pondhawk was perched contentedly before the sun went down.

  • Dragonfly Greetings
    by Bonnie Taylor Barry

    US$4.28–US$114.00

This is a female blue dasher dragonfly that was cooling off in the rosebushes on a hot Sunday afternoon. She was so kind as to let me take her picture as she “let off a little steam” from her teapot spout. Seriously, this is the way dragonflies beat the heat!

    Macro of a Dragonfly

  • The most wanted serial killer in the world, in spite of efforts to find efficient solutions. Prevention is still the best medicine. In my zazzle shop you can find the same design showed on different models, colours and the backside printed with logo and instruction. Plus they print larger and their quality of printing is very good!

  • Mosquito's guns (photo)
    by Woodie

    US$3.42–US$91.20

The wooden Wonder was very well armed with both 4 x .303” machine guns and 4×20mm cannons. The nose also contained AI mk.IV, air interception radar. / Rebuild at Elvington, Yorkshire Air Museum.

  • This is how it was doing low level marking. War is Hell. / The aircraft code was a personal marking for AN-T
