I was so intent on the centre of the photo I didn’t realise I’d also taken some workmen on the building behind as well. A happy coincidence, this was taken in Doha (Qatar).

“Raza! In Allah’s eyes we will have no worth if we do not love Medina on this earth”. / - Ala Hazrat Shah Ahmed Raza Khan (May Allah azzawajal be Pleased With Him) Madinah (Almadina Al-Munawara) the light city, is the city of the Prophet Muhammad and also his burial place. / is one of Islam’s most sacred shrines. / Muslims are drawn to Madinah, not as a religious duty as in the case of Makkah, but out of love and respect for God’s last Prophet. For it is in this city that the Prophet Muhammad established the first Islamic community, spent the last years of his life, and where he and many of his companions are buried. Known by more than 90 names that generally denote respect and devotion, the city is most commonly called Madinah (city), short for Madinah Al-Nabi (City of the Prophet) or Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah (the Radiant or Enlightened City), a reference to its association with the Prophet. A Beautiful mixed media painting of my beloved Madinah.
More and more people in Turkey left their villages to live in the big cities. So also the old quarter Karatay in Konya (Middle Anatolia, Turkey) is changing, new buildings made of concrete replaces the old houses made of brick, clay and wood. And also the mosque is new (May 2004). © Photo by Jens Helmstedt / Profile . Photos . Writing . Calendars . Journal ANATOLIA magazine

The “Blue Mosque” in Istanbul, Turkey was commissioned by Sultan Ahmet as an Islamic place of worship. He commissioned it in order to rival the Hagia Sophia which stands near it. Construction on the mosque began in 1609 and took seven years to complete. It was designed by the architect Mehmet Aga. Sultan Ahmet died only a year after the completion of his masterpiece, at the age of 27. He is buried just outside the mosque with his wife and three sons. The interior is magnificent and structurally the smaller domes complement the great central dome. The columns were enormous and soared high above the floor to the roof. The blue tiles from which the mosque gets its name are visible in this photo. I took the photo through the frame which carries lights. (Reference www.sacred-destinations.com)

Some of the supporting columns in the Jami Masjid mosque in Ahmedabad / Tech details: / 5D2, 28-70mm lens (@28mm), 1/50sec, f9.0, iso200 Processed using CS4, photomatix and silver efex / The Jami Masjid of Ahmedabad is one of the biggest and oldest mosques of India, built by a Bahmani ruler Ahmed Shah I (1411-1442), the founder of Ahmedabad, in 1423. One of the major tourist attractions of Gujarat, Jami Masjid is known for its fine and amazing architecture. The Mosque has a total of 260 pillars supporting 15 domes at different elevations. The Jami Masjid also had tall minarets, which were destroyed in an earthquake. Centered on a spacious 75×66 meters marble courtyard with entrances on three sides – west, south and north, the Jami Mosque is regarded as one of the most superb and imposing structures of its class in the world. The architecture of the Jami Mosque shows distinctive Hindu and Jain influence, clearly visible on the decorations of walls and the niches of the mosque. One of the distinct features of this Mosque is its royal gallery with beautiful and intricate stonework. There is also a long rectangular ablution tank in the center. The prayer hall of the mosque is a rectangular area with five symmetrical domes. The central Mihrab (position indicating the direction of the Holy Mecca) of the mosque has inscriptions commemorating its completion on January 4, 1424, by Sultan Ahmad Shah I.
