Early winters morning sunrise at Bronte Beach – Sydney
As Autumn begins to give way to winter, the morning sky and light becomes more soft, as Mother Nature takes a turn and starts her winter hibernation. This sure was a different styled shot for me. I actually intended to get down to Washington Park and shoot the sunrise but instead was greeted with something that seemed otherworldly. The sun backlighting the clouds and the dampness in the air made for quite a surreal feeling, standing here in absolute solitude, not a sound, not even the Geese you see in the water made a sound…it was ominous. I figured I would try something really different for once and got out my tripod and put on my Minolta 28mm F2.8 lens for this shot ( I am LOVING that damned lens BTW, sharp as a tack!) and started firing off shots, then it hit me,—-why don’t I try a few long exposures, and well, this is the end result. 10 seconds. Personally I kinda like it, an odd impression it gives with the Geese in the water, reminds me of a painting, and surreal as well. Does it work?? I am not entirely sure, you be the judge. I would love to hear what ya all think of this shot. I have gone ahead and submitted it under the surreal category, a category I don’t think I have ever submitted to before…. Anyways, I would love some feedback on this! / Thanks all! / -John / -—-—-—-——- See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. A Morning Softness Photographed in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park, the morning of 2009, worth it as I was one of the only people in the entire park, an odd feeling to say the least, but one of absolute serenity. Processed in HDR / —-John
This is a photo taken in my neighborhood, Woodland Hills, Utah. This community sits at about 6,000 feet altitude on the side of a mountain. This is the main road into the neighborhood and this location is at about 700 South on Woodland Hills Drive. We received another foot of snow on January 2nd and this was taken on January 3rd as we drove to town. We love this beautiful community and it’s clean air, four seasons and beautiful nature as well as the wildlife we get to observe. This is where we have retired and we love being here. / FEATURED in the group Snow! Glorious Snow!!
This was the view that greeted me from my deckin Okotoks, Alberta in the early morning of Jan 9/09. I had to enhance it slightly in PS to bring the Rocky Mountains out of the haze, but it is pretty much the way I saw it. Hope you like it.

Another image from my chilly December 21, 2008 winter walk on top of Blue Knob Mountain in Claysburg, PA. Yes, these clouds were really there … I didn’t photoshop them in this time, lol!!! It was an amazing, crystal morning!!! Taken with the Nikon D40x, using the 18-135mm Nikon lens with the cp filter. Photoshopping to remove errant snow flakes on the lens. Shutter 1/400, aperture f/10, exposure -.33, and iso 200.
One morning when I came out for my daily walk, there was fresh snow, and everything was covered in frost. The sun made the field look magic, sparkling in the light.

A Sunrise Over Golden Captured overlooking Golden, Colorado from Lookout Mountain / I went ahead and set the scene up and was thinking “Oh ya, maybe I should try using my filters!” and wallah, this is the outcome! It was a cold morning to say the least, and once again my damn tripod was like a flagpole one licks when it is below freezing lol You have to love the feel of cold, icy steel on bare skin! It is so much fun! NOT! lol But I think it was pretty much worth it. When I was out in this field shooting the sunrise, I thought to myself, if only everyone could fall in love with nature, there would be no room for war and hatred in the world. As I was running around over the saturated grass, with saturated shoes, I forgot all my troubles as this magical moment happened. We were on our way to the Bunya Mountains National Park. When I returned to the car, reality kicked in, I had saturated shoes, and no spare ones!! It must have looked funny, socks jammed in the rear windows, and the shoes wedged in the roof racks to dry… Scotch Thistle, in a cattle field, just outside Kilcoy, Queensland, Australia.
