Morning light on the coast of Christmas Rock in the Eastern Cape of South Africa
As Autumn begins to give way to winter, the morning sky and light becomes more soft, as Mother Nature takes a turn and starts her winter hibernation. This sure was a different styled shot for me. I actually intended to get down to Washington Park and shoot the sunrise but instead was greeted with something that seemed otherworldly. The sun backlighting the clouds and the dampness in the air made for quite a surreal feeling, standing here in absolute solitude, not a sound, not even the Geese you see in the water made a sound…it was ominous. I figured I would try something really different for once and got out my tripod and put on my Minolta 28mm F2.8 lens for this shot ( I am LOVING that damned lens BTW, sharp as a tack!) and started firing off shots, then it hit me,—-why don’t I try a few long exposures, and well, this is the end result. 10 seconds. Personally I kinda like it, an odd impression it gives with the Geese in the water, reminds me of a painting, and surreal as well. Does it work?? I am not entirely sure, you be the judge. I would love to hear what ya all think of this shot. I have gone ahead and submitted it under the surreal category, a category I don’t think I have ever submitted to before…. Anyways, I would love some feedback on this! / Thanks all! / -John / -—-—-—-——- See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. Sometimes you have to sacrifice to get an image. To do things you are routinely prepared to skip, do them on impulse, for the sake of curiosity or survival of your photographic essence, whichever comes first. For a change, wake up early, walk to an interesting destination, one with an aura of permanent popularity like a waterfall or beach, and infuse your artistic being with an extra dose of organic beauty. I reached the pristine flow and witnessed it right on time, tranquil and clear, painted by a mystifying glow, no sun or moon can claim. The sight was so surreal, the river itself had to stop and make a couple of circles before departing towards the sea. Scented green branches diluted their reflections in its placid water, the skeletons of fallen trees slowly morphed back into daylight shapes. The mist and part of the river that managed to take off as a vapor danced softly in mid air. I trapped a little playful bird with my eyes. / / A complete mental inventory for a fairy flavored daydream. Even if your digital masterpiece stays short of its cerebral counterpart, how can you fail to remember the sight that can suspend all of your uncertainties, the insanely lush hazy forest and its river that wears fallen leaves like jewelry. Well, is there a point in getting up early? If the just spoken plea is not enough I can give you a better reason. You should do it because you still can; a fact that may not be equally true tomorrow.

Inspired by the dreamy tune of Catch A Fall by 4 Strings. I had this song on repeat while I made this.

Fog slowly lifts from the coves floor. Dawn has awakened all of nature to a new day. The coolness of night still lingers. The dew clings to all it has touched for it knows its time has come to leave. In a few hours Cades Cove will be bathed with the warmth of a new day………Imaged made from 4 shots stitched in CS3.This also is my 1st attempt at a stitched panoramic……taken in Cades Cove,GSMNP…..This is 1X4 version I’m working on a 1X3 that I’ll post later…..shot a couple weeks ago while shooting with Sherri and Ronnie Hamilton Sherri
Clear your mind. Sit very still. Breathe in long and slow. Let your worries be gone. Allow a peacefulness to envelop you as the mist does the mountains. The mountains like your worries may be big. As the mist overcomes the mountains let the peacefulness overcome your worries……image was taken in Cades Cove, GSMNP
Another beautiful morning of sunlight, fog, and wildlife. Patriot Lake is a man-made lake in Shelby Farms park. It is a very popular place in the morning, many people walk, jog, roller-blade, and bike around it’s entirety. When I reached this location there were about five times more geese floating in the water. Something rattled them and they took flight. I snapped off a few frames and this was the best. The fog against the sunlight is amazing and I was so very happy to have been able to capture such a beautiful moment. / /

I love the smell and dewy softness of fresh cut flowers in the morning. There is something special about going out just as the sun begins to climb into the beginning trip for the day. The air is cool and soft. The flowers still sleepy and full of dew. :o) Created in Apophysis 3D Hack. Postwork in Photoshop.

The night was full of rain, dark and noisy. The morning comes and the sun breaks through the clouds. As the sun breaks through, the cool droplets slowly warm and sparkle to welcome a wonderful new day. Created in Fractal Explorer. Postwork to adjust colors and contrasts in Photoshop.
