  • I was inspired this morning after reading and commenting on Julie Langford’s Post. It made me remember that sometimes the journey – the people you meet, the things you learn along the way – is more important than the destination. So despite the bitter frosty morning I rugged myself up (two thermals are better than one) and set out to greet nature and the day with Sami and my trusty tripod in tow. Turns out The Day had advance warning from Nature that I was coming (I think it was the blue wren who visits me that let the secret out)... and together they turned on an absolutely gorgeous – albeit bloody freezing – show. This is most likely the easiest image I have ever had in post production, the only enhancement it has had is a slight vignette added. For the mist gently rising off the water… the glorious colour… the frost on the reeds… the delicate reflections… the beautiful ray of illuminating light… I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Nature and The Day. Title inspiration from Newton Faulkner’s song “Gone in the Morning” Best viewed LARGE

  • PLEASE VIEW LARGE.. !! This was taken early in the morning as we arrived for our journey to the Elephant Seal area. Mists and light and Peace. Taken in the Año Nuevo SNR State Natural Reserve Northern California / ELEPHANT SEAL AFTERNOON I have used this form of morning meditation for quite some time and feel the ease of this practice and results in a more generous day with better focus. This is a meditation to begin the day. In a seated pose, focus on your breath. Cultivate a steady, relaxed breath. Then ask yourself: What is my intention today? After posing the question, rest your attention on the out-breath. This creates a spaciousness of attention on the in-breath. There is no direction for the in-breath. Do not get carried away by thinking, but also do no tightly control the attention. Continue to notice each out breath. Sit until you are struck by a clarity of intention. It comes not by chasing it down with thinking, but by stilling the mind and creating space. It may take a few minutes, or much longer. If no specific intention announces itself to you, simply commit to acting ethically and with mindfulness. That is certainly an intention that we can all practice each day. This meditation seems simple, and it is simple. It’s power lies in its ability to help us act intentionally throughout the day. If you practice this meditation each morning, you will find yourself more ‘awake’ behind the wheel of your life*.

  • / Morning Light World English Bible / Yahweh make his face to shine on you, and be gracious to you. From the ‘Connection Series’, this is a pencil drawing, coloured with aquacolour crayons on paper… i have played around with this quite a bit in photoshop also, applying layers and more colour to enrich the overall look When i ponder this, it gives me a feeling of hope, like after the mourning, there is morning and the sun comes out again….. It’s all about our connection with nature and other lofty things :)

  • I am sure that deer, especially, really enjoy their morning solitude. Their needs are small, safety, food, water and a quiet spot, in the morning, much like we like morning coffee or tea or whatever our routine. This image has it all. The mist is rising as the sun climbs up out of it’s slumbering state. It is Autumn and so the foliage reflects that. The reflections are calm, for this is a stream that doesn’t flow fast, but takes it’s time getting where it wants to go. The whole tempo here is at a very slow pace, the message is wake up slowly because one never knows what the day will bring. Background image taken at River Bridge off of highway 62 on the way to Union Creek, Oregon. The image was softened in Dreamy photo, I then used layers to make any changes. Using a layer mask, I erased the mist over some of the water in the foreground, so that the reflections would be clearer. I then added the autumn leaves in the right foreground as composite layers and then added the small deer as a composite layer.
