  • I am constantly searching for the SPIRIT of trees and forests and have found that I am drawn to the mystical in my subjects. They speak to me and challenge me to hear their stories and capture the ethereal rather than the absolute concrete. Using my camera as a brush on the forest palette of greens, browns, reds, ambers, yellows, grays, blues and purples I create my images in camera capturing a moment in time when I have stopped to listen and share the sylvan secrets offered to me. Here a group of pines, planted in rows along a country road offers up their story, through a visual whisper. • This is the first dragonfly to emerge each season in the Rainy River District of Northwestern Ontario. Here I wanted a tight closeup with shallow DOF to focus attention on the head and thorax of this beautiful dragon, using the muted colors in the background to help with this emphasis.

  • This northern red oak leaf gave me one shot as the sun hit it briefly on a late September afternoon near Fort Frances, Ontario. Shot off my Bogen tripod with an old Minolta X-700 and Sigma 70-300 zoom in macro mode on Fujichrome Velvia before digital imaging was popular. This remains one of my favorite fall images and has graced the cover of Seasons Magazine.

  • I love the UP (Upper Peninsula) of Michigan in the fall. The colors are fantastic and there are lots of out-of-the-way places to shoot away from the crowds. Here I followed the Lower Carp River in Porcupine Mountains State Park and made images of maple leaves floating in quiet pools. I hope you enjoy this one with just a bit of post processing BuZZ.

  • Common Green Darner (Anax junius) covered with water drops from an early morning rain sprinkle sits on a purple cone flower in my back yard waiting to dry out. In a half hour he was dry and gone. Photographed in Fort Frances, Ontario. SOLD as a mounted print – March 22, 2009. / SOLD as a greeting card – October 27, 2009

  • This Brown Pelican was really giving me the “eye” along the pier at Rockport ,Texas. I guess I won since I have his picture.

  • A fine autumn day on the Ontonagon River in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

  • This Hagen’s Bluet is a damselfly common to northwestern Ontario and northern Minnesota. This little guy is about 3 cm long in real life. It was photographed in Koochiching County, Minnesota. This image was just selected for publication in the 2010 Minnesota Weatherguide engagement calendar appearing for the week of July 25 – 31, 2010.

  • Still life black and white fascinate me. This tulip image from a scanned slide was converted to B&W to emphasize form and tones in this floral arrangement. Featured at Tulips – April 12, 2009.

  • This dilapidated and crumbling barn was photographed in Chisago County, Minnesota a year ago. Today it is just a pile of boards.

  • Created in camera. I am constantly drawn to the beauty of forest and trees and the spirit of the place. With this in mind, I often try to capture more than a documentary view of place by listening to the whispers of trees and grass which guide me to the path between reality and a spiritual connection. In this image the living mystery of Spring emerges.

  • Asian Lady Beetles dance around the heart of this orange dahlia generating some heat on a cool October evening in Duluth, Minnesota.

  • On the path of dreams I wind through a forest of spirit trees whispering the secrets of winter’s last breath. In the distance spring awaits as new life slowly rises in maple veins bringing sweet sap to those that gently seek this yearly gift. For me the forest mysteries and spirit elders always go forth. Watch and listen. And they will be given to you. . . Featured at Live, Love Dream – November 2, 2009 Featured at Impressionist Photography – November 2, 2009

  • This damselfly is a bluet species and probably Hagens, but it is very difficult to tell without magnification of its tail end. Photographed July 16th, I did some post processing in PS using dry brush to give it a bit of a painterly quality. Featured on RedBubble Home Page – October 6, 2009

  • Seasonal high water in the river has produced views of Kakabeka Falls that have not been seen in years. The view is spectacular at Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park in northwestern Ontario, Canada.

  • A September sunset on the Rainy River, the 60 mile water border between Minnesota and Ontario. This river was known as the “Voyageurs Highway” during the fur trade era and served First Nation people as the main trade artery linking east and west, north and south for thousands of years. On the left bank is Minnesota with Ontario on the right. For thousands of years people of the Rainy River knew no boundaries and freely traveled back and forth.

  • Fall color at its best in northwestern Ontario just off Hwy 502 north of Fort Frances. This image was totally and carefully created in camera. Featured at A Beautiful Blur – February 19, 2009.

  • Created entirely in camera near Duluth, Minnesota several Octobers ago. Abstracted further with the Fractalius filter. Featured at Extraordinary Fractalius – 3/day – June 24, 2009 Sold as a framed print – November 13, 2009

  • This fern frond was photographed at the Thunder Bay Arboretum. I see this image as a metaphor for both tension and the possibility for release and freedom. Minolta 7D with Tamron 90 mm f2.8 Featured at 1:1 Macro Photography – August 17, 2009

  • In camera creation. .. . what is soon to follow the cool wet summer in NW Ontario. Minolta 7D with Sigma 28-70 f2.8

  • Tree spirits lead the way to the Spirit Lodge where all who open their heart and mind will share the stories. . . of present, past and future. . . In camera creation near Moose Lake, Minnesota.

  • This male hover fly (Toxomerus geminatus) was so intent on getting a taste of the pollen on this purple aster that it would not move off for any reason. Photographed at the Cranberry Peatlands Interpretive Trail – Alberton Township, near Fort Frances, Ontario. Minolta 7D with my Tamron 90 mm f2.8 macro tripod mounted. Featured at ONTARIO – November 13, 2009
