Being the wife of the famous Admiral Percival Morgan had the obvious advantages of wealth and station. But that level of fame always comes with a price and Mrs Morgan became a far too tempting target for the many cutpurses and street robbers roaming London’s streets. As a result of all the many, many kidnap and theft attempts on Mrs Morgan her particular Tommy Trooper model saw more combat than even some models on the front lines.

9×12 pastel on Sennellier la carte paper Since I did a Guinevere Empress, I had to of course do a Morgan Le Fay High Priestess! / Morgan Le Fay is a very popular figure today, and yet she is rather obscure in Literature. Originally written about as a great healer and shamaness. In later literature she became a rather wicked enchantress who of course had a hand in the destruction of Camelot. / She is the half-sister of King Arthur, and thought to be half faery. Although many are unsure if the Fay in her names actually means Faery or comes from the Latin Fata (which means fate). / She is also guessed to have evolved from the earlier Morrigan triple goddess. This is what gives her her “dark goddess” connection. Morgan Le Fay was the High Priestess of the mystical island of Avalon. Avalon represents the Underworld, or Otherworld. The dark goddess often rules over the Otherworld, for it represents our sub-conscious mind. It is the place we ignore, but is always there with us. It is like our shadow-self. When we journey beyond the veil into the darkness, we bring back great wisdom and evolve into greater spiritual beings more aware of our true nature. / This was the job of the high priestess in ancient times. She journeyed to the Otherworld and came back with the messages for the people from the Goddess. The High Priestess represents our Intuition and our ability to journey into the realm of the Otherworld to bring back “the Law”, or the wisdom of our shadow-self. / The apple is a stong symbol of Avalon. Often the pomegrante is pictured on High Priestess cards, and the apple holds the same symbolism here. It is the mystical fruit of the Otherworld that we seek in order to gain wisdom. / Morgan Le Fay also has a strong connection to water, as water also represents the feminine consciousness and the sub-conscious realm. Cars loaned to us by a friend, (thank you so much) for my sisters wedding. Two beautiful cars that were stunning together, 1955 Buick and 2008 Morgan Aero. As Donna and Neil were away down the beach with the photographer I took my chance with the last rays of light of the day and the setting sun to snap my interpretation of the shot the photographer wanted. Will be interested to see how they all turn out though. Yes, I was duty driver… The Buick is like a great big old boat that floats down the road and (literally) floats round corners too! / The Morgan is just a pure all out roadster with immense power, traction to the road like it’s on rails, did I mention the only one in NZ?! This is a piece that I did for the / THE DIVINE FEMININE / Warriors, Demons, and Whores Challenge. She is – Morgan (Morrigan): Celtic; Goddess of War and Magic. In some ancient stories “The Dark Green Goddess from the Emerald Isle” is mated with the Merlin, in others she is the Lady of the Lake, and in many versions she is the sister of Arthur. Morgan has her good side but is mostly known for her deep dark shadow side. She was said to be a shape-changer who could turn from ravishing beauty to hag, to crow. She reportedly also knew how to utilize the full spectrum of Earths Energy for good or bad. I was inspired by the artwork here on RedBubble of: AlexandraG, AmandaGWright, artistmind, Reynaldo and more to be loose and expressive with my line work and color. With this piece I think that I made that next step. 10×8 IN. Ink, Pencil, and Chalk Pastel on Watercolor paper.
