Woodblock print (Artist’s Proof). / January 2008 This is the full version of the print, which I also intend breaking down into variations of smaller images.
This makes me want to cry as I find it very moving. A tiny baby moorhen flaps its wings to get its Mummy to give it a worm for tea. You can just make out tiny prehistoric-like claws on the end of its little wings. Adorable. Taken with Nikon D50 using 70-400mm lens.
... but he’ll grow. Common Moorhen (gallinula chloropus) at Arundel WWT, West Sussex, England. To gauge his size, those are grains of wheat on the lower right of the photo. Got to love those oversized feet and almost non-existent wings! ;o) Canon EOS 5D MkII with Canon EF 70-200mm L IS f/4 / ISO 125 / 1/500/ f/4 / 200mm
Isn’t she one of the most adorable little things you have ever seen? Taken with Nikon D50.

Two moorhens doing what comes naturally…
This interesting bird was taken at a small nature park in Largo, Florida.
Photographed on the same shoot as Yellow Pole. I love the pattern created by the languid undulations of the water’s surface, reflecting the corrugated iron sides of a waste processing plant.
Photographed at Beauty Park, Frankston
This little group of Australian native waterbirds was photographed at a little public Nature Reserve at The Binnacle in Port Macquarie , NSW. Australia, on a winter’s afternoon. The real subject here is the light. The low slung winter sun cast a golden light across the scene and light was also reflected from the water. I really love the effect. The birds on our left are Gallinula tenebrosa (Common Moorhen) and those on our right are Threskiornis molucca (Australian White Ibis) .
