  Announcing a new Photo Competition. The theme is “Once in a Blue Moon” / Deadline February 28, 2008 You don’t need to have a blue moon in your entry. I am looking more at the phrase “Once in a Blue Moon”, meaning something that doesn’t happen very often (if ever). For example, pigs flying, snow in Los Angeles etc. This is wide open for your imagination. / Requirements: The entries must have been worked on in Photoshop only. No other editing or specialty programs are allowed. See the rules below. / The artwork must be brand new artwork. The purpose of this competition is to encourage people to go out and create something new and different in Photoshop. / Snowdog (winner of last years Blue Moon Photo Comp) and Deon de Waal have graciously volunteered to help me judge this contest. Thanks guys. / Prizes are: / 1st: Red Bubble Gift certificate for $100.00 USD / 2nd: Red Bubble Gift certificate for $ 50.00 USD / 3rd: Red Bubble Gift certificate for $ 25.00 USD / I am working on some additional goodies for the winners (TBA) 2 Honorary awards will each receive a $10.00 Red Bubble Gift certificate (USD) The rules must be strictly adhered to. Failure to do so will mean elimination from the contest. 1. One entry per person. More than one entry means disqualification. 2. Put “oncebluecomp” in your tag line. If you don’t have it in your tagline, you are not entered. 3. Artwork must be completed in 2008 (brand new artwork). 4. Photoshop only. No other editing or specialty program can be used. Photoshop plug-ins from different vendors are allowed. 5. If you use any stock photos in your artwork, you must give the photographer or stock photo company, credit. 6. Collaborations are allowed. I can split the gift certificates if need be. 7. You can change or alter your entry up until Feb. 28, 2008 as long as you stick to the 1 entry per person rule.   And the Winners Are….. / Well everyone, this was mission impossible, to choose the winners of these 2 contests. It took most of Saturda…

  And the Winners Are….. / Well everyone, this was mission impossible, to choose the winners of these 2 contests. It took most of Saturday and Sunday to decide. Some of the RedBubblers were disqualified for not sticking to the rules of each contest. I eliminated everyone that didn’t put the the tag words bluemooncomp or moonphotocomp (depending on the contest). / I also eliminated everyone that had multiple entries under using the above tag words. And I eliminated others for not following the rules for the image (i.e.- no use of my “Blue Moon” in the Blue Moon Comp. Sadly, there were some excellent entrants that got disqualified. / I went back and forth trying to figure out the winners. I swapped winners so many times that I lost track. My sister and niece helped with the selection. In the end, there were too many excellent works of art and too few places. / I am preparing a contest for next spring that will be a little better organized and make it easier for people to understand the rules. I am starting to work on the prizes so that I can have some extra bonuses for the winners next time. I will announce the next contest sometime in January.   I am so sorry it took awhile to post this. I am getting ready for a trip to Cancun and have been frantically scrambling to get things done. / This was quite the hard contest to judge. Several people entered images that were made with layers (only basic photo editing was allowed) and several entered more than one entry (only one entry per person). Sadly, I had to disqualify some really good entries due to not following the rules. Once again, I had so many excellent entries that I have spent days wringing my hands trying to figure out a winner. With thanks to Diane my sister for helping me judge this. / Before I announce the winners, for those of you interested, we are trying to put together a calender for the Blue Moon Contest and another one for the Moon Contest. Since calenders are new, the details are being worked out. Let me know if you would be interested in these calenders.   / Midnight Blues by Karin Taylor Well howdy my bubbly friends, and wouldya believe i got me favourite piece of art featured on the HOMEPAGE tonight!! omi!!! omeeee!!! omi!!!! You see, i was just havin’ a little whinge about how i never get featured no more….. / and the one i was thinkin’ deserved a little featuring…just happens to pop up on / the homepage….wo!! I should try whingin’ a little more often (nah, my family disagrees!!!!!) lol Midnight Blues is from a painting i did recently on Arches Aquarelle Paper 56×76cm, a mixed media production, utilising inks, pastels, acrylics, charcoals, found objects such as string and fabric….and the most beautiful gold paint which gives the guitar it’s lustre Midnight Blues is from the Inspired Series by Karin Taylor, during the painting of this, i was strongly influenced by my favourite Australian artist, Brett Whitely, longing to capture something of the wonderful curves he created in his works. It has a dark and sombre feeling, much like how i was feeling at the time i created her. I used to laugh and carry on that my thoughts and my moods could ever be conveyed through a painting, and it was just silly that people reckoned they did so, but just look at me now….i cannot seem to prevent it happening these days!! lol…that’ll teach me to scoff :)

  Has anybody gone out and had a look at the moon tonight? I’ve just posted a picture of tonights moon here on the South Coast of NSW Australia. The halo around the moon is really dark reddish in colour, its just amazing. Tuesday’s full moon is suposed to be a red moon due to atmospheric conditions or something. I don’t really understand that bit of it by if tonights red halo is a warm up then Tuesday nights moon should be pretty fantastic. Does any one know any thing more about this red moon? The photo looks better up bigger and if you look really closely you can see a face in the bottom of the corona. Well I can any way :) the moon the moon!
