Sydney is not only blessed by a beautiful coastline providing us with countless beaches, but also some of these beaches have a “rock pool” at the headland. These rock pools provide a great place for the locals to take a dip in the ocean without the waves. I stood watching this young bonobo ape (an endangered species related to the chimpanzee) for a while, and I noticed that after a bit he was watching me, too. So I started talking to him, simple things like “Hello there,” and “Aren’t you handsome?” (Yes, people gave me funny looks, and no, I didn’t care.) He actually seemed to like it, and we gestured and held eye contact for a couple of minutes. Then, some people strolled up next to me and started making obnoxious “monkey noises” and saying “Heyyy monkey monkey” and so on. Now, bonobos are not monkeys, they are apes, and they do not make “monkey noises,” and I could clearly see that this little guy found all of this annoying. So, after a moment, he purposefully stood up, turned around, bent over, and put his head between his legs as you see here. I don’t think the monkey-noise people really got it, but I did, and I so wish I could have given him a high-5. :P In conjunction with the Primates Group’s fundraising efforts, 100% of the profits from the sale of this image will be donated to Gorilla Haven.

This is a collaboration I did with Geoff Coleman.. http://www.redbubble.com/people/geoffcoleman thanks geoff…loved this photo!! this piece was probably the one that took me the longest to create ever… the lighting was difficult to blend in with geoff’s photo and each test render took over an hour … there were over 30 test renders, in addition to the 20 odd hours i spent on lighting and surfaces … i was pretty determined to make it work.

I was driving along a road in a seaside town at Jervis Bay, just 2.5 hours south of Sydney Australia when I glimpsed this moon through some trees with a pathway of silver light across the water. A lucky moment, in that all the elements were there but tricky in putting them together because it was so dark I couldn’t see anything through the viewfinder and had to keep taking pics, viewing them on the LCD display and then moving the tripod to get the composition I wanted. / It looks to me like the trees on either side of the moon are partners about to dance onto the floor of some enchanted ballroom.

/ . / I had some requests of a portrait shot of my photo entitled “Luna over Luna Park”. Luckily, I had taken the shot. I’m not great at giving photos titles, hence the title for this one. This was taken on the same night of my other photos “Luna Over Luna Park”, “Luna Harbour” and “Luna PANORAMA”. The photos were taken in quite quick succession. I attempted to combine the full moon, with the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You might be interested in viewing the other photos because this is in Portrait, two are in Landscape, and one PANORAMA. It’s amazing how a similar subject can be photographed in slightly different ways, and produce different results. I will interested in knowing which of the four is you favourite !
