Like a fairytale castle Mont Saint Michel at dusk in the rain, I got wet and cold but it was worth it for images like this. A blended exposure using HDR techniques.

This photograph recently won The Australian/Abercrombie & Kent Image of Climate Change Competition as an image that “captured the sense and spirit of global landscapes”. Photographed from the Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix, France in September 2005.
If you have visited the Mt. St. Michel, in France, then you know it is a large area to cover. After one of my many visits I saw this beautiful dusk light, against an exterior wall and building. Dusk is my favorite time of day, with a sense of peace settling, in a small window of time. I feel this picture is one example. La Manche, France FEATURED in Mood & Ambience / FEATURED in Style! Class! Elegance! Excellence!
On our way to shoot night shots at Mont Saint Michel we pulled over in a side lane to find a good spot to take shots of this WindMill, unfortunately it really started to blow and rain as soon as I got out of the car, still I think it was worth getting wet for the light was just delightful.

Like a fairytale castle Mont Saint Michel at dusk in the rain, with my wife waiting patiently in the car for an hour I took various shots trying to capture the magic of this famous landmark.

This is the Mont-Blanc du Tacul seen from the Aiguille du Midi, in Chamonix, France, september 2008. I had just finished a climb on the arête des cosmiques (somewhat visible in the lower right corner) and the high winds and fresh snow led to this amazing lighting, for a perfect day in the mountains.
Walking toward the cathedral in Real del Monte Mexico. This scene was taken in a centuries old mining town in the mountains above Pachuca Hidalgo Mexico and expresses the sort of worn resignation to tradition and rutine that so depicts life in some small Mexican villages. / Mining for gold and silver started in Real del Monte over 500 years ago under the rule of a Spanish Viceroy. Working conditions were terrible, with miners working knee deep in water most of the time and having to carry large sacks of ore on their backs while climbing 200 to 400 meters up laders made of notched tree trunks. Of course many of the miners died, and those who didn’t were plagued with suffering from the slave like conditions. This photograph captures the emotion one feels when walking through the town and learning of it’s history; a dreary mix of suffering, desperate faith and stained riches. Mining stopped in Real del Monte only a few years ago after passing through ownership by the Spanish, the British, Mexican and American mining companies over a period of many years.
