This is a monoprint that was created by using two different methods. I cut the center square out, and produced the inner image by covering the plate in black printing ink and removing the ink with tools to expose the design. I painted the outer image with oils that were diluted with turpentine so the image would be printable. The center was put back into place and the two plates were printed as one through a press. The overall effect reveals the color and loose quality of nature, (with the river flowing into the center), which turns into a receding, dark highway (a modern path of man-made concrete).

This is my first attempt at a monotype, I think doing them teaches you to be freer in your art. ..so I am going to start getting into them and see where it takes me. I know Fred Williams did printmaking first and than took his prints into painting form. My mind is so controlled, I want to get loose. This is my first attempt the Monotype after reading a book On Bruno Leti the famous monotype artist who lives in Melbourne. Bruno if you ever read this, I would kill to visit your studio. This is no longer a pen and ink drawing, it has now been made into a Monotype Print. I am looking at ways I can move into more copper plate etchings and paintings. So I am going to try my hand at scribbling ideas down and seeing how they go on the bubble. Later when the work is completed I will download the finished work and put this original mock up drawing to the side of the picture. So you can see my progression. I hope to try and manipulate this visual with different mediums until I get what I want. This was last updated on 14.6.08.
